thoughts to Briggs' family and friends. i looked it up and the person who is accused of shooting and killing him is the same guy that Briggs once helped save. it was right to cancel the event. here is an article on a fundraiser being help for the family. http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061020/REPOSITORY/610200336/1043/NEWS01

Out of respect for the family and colleagues of Officer Briggs, and for his service to the State of New Hampshire, the rally and canvass originally scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 11:00 AM with Sen. John Kerry and Paul Hodes has been cancelled.
If you have any questions, please contact our campaign headquarters at 603-223-2006.

I would have gone but I'm somehow glad that I don't have to drive tomorrow morning. We had heavy rain all day and it's very stormy outside right now. I just read that they announced snow for tonight and probably more bad weather for tomorrow morning.
I'm still sorry that we now won't be able to meet. And I would have loved to see Rox as well. Maybe another time...

5. What a terrible thing! My sympathies to the family |

and to the brotherhood of police that he left behind. I saw this story on the news and it truly was just awful. Rest in Peace Officer Briggs.

6. Downtown Manchester is closing down for the funeral procession today |
|
Elm St. is arguably the 'main drag' of downtown Manchester, NH. I just saw on the news that Elm St. was being shut off to traffic and parking as of 8:45 AM, to make way for the funeral procession. They said around 1,000 law-enforcement officers showed up for Officer Briggs' wake last night. Ironically, the man alleged to have shot Briggs was himself shot a few years ago. The officer who was first to come to his aid at the scene of the shooting was Briggs.
A very sad story. Briggs was 35, and leaves behind a wife and 2 young sons.
