John Kerry Responding to Republican Distortions
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 12:07 PM by whometense
Statement of John Kerry Responding to Republican Distortions, Pathetic Tony Snow Diversions and Distractions

Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.

Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”

6. Oh please Rox, he has to be.
This is one of his classics. I might frame this one, get him to sign it someday. It's really, really good.

RWers have nothing to run on. All they have is fake outrage at the wrong damn target. Real outrage should be directed at That Friggin Idiot in the White House, but the kool-aid and the programming commands won't allow them to direct their anger where it belongs. So, they have fake outrage. Poor dumb morans.

Panic is setting in and it shows. Ah, they can all bite me.

Wade-ean ring to it, doesn't it?

But he and JK have been together long enough that it sounds like both of them to me.

Dailykos is NOT DU. The person who put up the diary doesn't seem to know the rules, that you have to put up at least 4 paragraphs. Good chance it'll be deleted.

Really? Oh, please let this not be a mistake.

McCain is toadying to his low-rent masters in the RW. Demands that Kerry apologize for something he didn't say. McCain falls lower than a snake's belly.

Ah, McCain, you can Bite me too!

Get get 'em Senator, sir.

Boehner, McCain.

Who will be the first democrat to ask him to apologize (not counting Lieberman, of course).

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/10/post_101.html

It also confirms that Kerry was aiming Bush, not the troops.

support and accountability from this administration. We shall see what comes of this.

22. It was intended to be a joke
The comment was supposed to go something like "...and if you don't, you get to start a war in Iraq." The way it came out could certainly apply to Bush as well, of course. In any case, it wasn't a slam on the troops no matter how it's considered.

How could anyone, especially McCain, allow this distortion to continue. Everyone knows that Kerry supports and honors our troops.

21. AP story up, prominently mentions KErry response.
Don't have a link yet, but he is the McCain part:

Snow said a lot of Americans have joined the military since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“As for the notion that you can say this sort of thing about the troops and say you support them, it’s interesting,” the press secretary said.

A potential rival to Kerry in 2008 _ Republican Sen. John McCain _ said in a statement that Kerry “owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education.”

Like Kerry, McCain is a decorated Vietnam veteran.

Hey, that corrupt piece of crap John Boehner, Jack Abramoff's best friend, just chimed in. His widdle feelings were hurt too and he want an apology. (Bite me boner.)

24. This is a good time to
bring it all out into the open:

Torture
Missing weapons
Lowering recruitment standards
Losing the army
Troops calling for withdrawal
Snipers
Failed Baghdad offensive

Bring it all out!

26. These Repubs are desperate if they are really trying to push the
idea that Senator Kerry doesn't support our troops. I am angry that McCain could even make this suggestion when he knows full well it isn't true.
The Repubs are again, trying to smear a good man.

32. Coverage from Jennifer Loven
Not surprisingly the media coverage is quite negative. However Jennifer Loven of AP, who frequently reports rather than just repeating right wing talking points, is providing some balance in AP's coverage:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2003332739_webkerry31.html

She's the one who had an article about the types of distortion used by the Bush administration, leading to lots of right wing attacks on her.
