Sen. Landrieu Calls for Kerry to Apologize
Written by PoliticsLA.com Staff
Wednesday, 01 November 2006
U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today issued the following comment on remarks made earlier in the week by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., who in a statement on education made a reference to U.S. forces in Iraq.

“Senator Kerry’s comment was careless, callous and hurtful to our men and women in uniform. I urge Senator Kerry to apologize to our service members and veterans and put this unfortunate situation to rest," said Senator Landrieu.

“I’d like to assure the people of Louisiana that I stand with our armed forces and their families 100 percent. But supporting the troops requires being more than a rubber stamp for civilian leaders who fail to adequately prepare, plan or equip our forces with the strategy and resources needed to win. Serious questions about the strategy in Iraq and rising deficits here at home need to be asked, and continue to stand at the heart of dozens of races across the country."

1. Yet another red state Dem who is afraid of the Republicans.
I'm seeing a pattern here.

Let me assure you, there are no plans to cede any ground to the Republican lies, even when Democrats are the ones asking for it.

3. Real gratitide there
It would have been nice to at least include that she knows Kerry does too in the second paragraph.

6. It's down right
vicious! Did she not see the press conference or read any of the dozens of reports on this? Also, these asshole Democrats are going overboard in responding to this statement, which was innocuous, in that it was ambiguous, even when taken out of context. There was still the implication that Bush was taking advantage of young people. This is despicable statement!

9. Oh, have you ever SEEN her in the Senate?
It's always about her. Seriously. I wish I were surprised, but I'm not.

15. Yep - and I seriously remember few good speeches
even then there's a question of where her heart is - and you always have a good idea where Kerry's is.

1) Alito - Hillary gave a speech, strongly in favor of the right to choose, women etc Then per accounts both in the media and from NY here and on DKos - her office was adament there would be no filibuster. She was obviously working against it, then voted for it as it failed. She can SAY she was strongly against him - but she clearly wasn't a real ally.

2) She gave a good speech against the detainees bill, then tells the NY Daily News torture was ok in the case of someone with knowledge of an imminent attack.

Also, as a CSPAN addict, the inside the belt way people say she gets along with so many people - but the visual is not Hillary hugging people etc - though it sometimes is with Kerry.

4. SO:
The DLC Weeniecrats have sided with the GOP and its whore media on this.

Meanwhile, the real liberals, the anti-war activists, and even the lefty blogs are all standing up for Kerry. (I can't tell if Kos is just hedging his bets because he knows failing to defend Kerry would betray every myth he's ever constructed about the strategy of the "netroots," or if it's geniune - God only knows with Kos. But I'll take it anyway.)

I applaud CLELAND, MURTHA, DEAN, and PELOSI who have stood by Kerry and turned this feeble smear BACK on the GOPs.

The rest of them and their bullshit feigned "support" for the "troops" officially sound NO different from the GOP. Fuck them all.

I can't believe I ever gave the DLC the benefit of the doubt. They ARE GOP-lite.

7. There's more coming.
Tonight should be good. We are NOT backing down on this. It's a Republican smear attempt, no matter how many DLCers glob on to it. It will have absolutely no effect on JK's ambitions, and the only story after the election will be about what a desperate, failed attempt it was to turn the blue tide. There is no merit to the attack and we aren't going to cede any ground.

The DINOs are merely showing their true colors, which sure aren't blue.

8. Well people in GD are already bitching because
supposedly he "apologized" for the botched joke. I read the article and kind of agree he shouldn't have said "sorry" for anything - although it remains clear that he is apologizing for fucking up the joke, not for some make-believe slight against "the troops."

11. I'm on the fence about that
I think it's clear that only partisan spinners are saying that he truly insulted the troops, especially after the press conference, KO, etc., yesterday. The news has been on for most of the day, in the background. The debate isn't about whether he insulted the troops. It's clear he didn't. The debate is about whether the gaffe will benefit the Republicans this year. Only the hardcore spinmeisters are trying to pretend otherwise, and I doubt they're fooling anyone. What we need is to keep the Chicken Little Democrats from freaking out completely and creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that this will have a negative impact. That's a bigger problem right at the moment.

12. Weeniecrats!
LOL, I love that. We should use it as much as we can. If nothing else, this latest about Kerry should show the doubters that he is definitely not a DLC type.

10. Mary Landreiu should be ashamed of herself
One of her most consistent allies in the Senate on Katrina and getting Louisiana and the Gulf regioj back up to speed has been John Kerry.

Shame on her for this. Shame, shame, shame.

14. Is she up for re-election this year? I just was wondering how
that all factored in. You know the categories -- red state, blue state, up for re-election or an off year.
