Guess what guys - I think things are going great.
I feel some things have IMPROVED. I think it's ALL going to be good. More people ARE getting a clearer picture of Kerry.

When Kerry came out and attacked back the other day, he sounded LIKE ALL OF US here at DU. He hit back like any of us would. I think people GET that, and don't want Dem lawmakers PUNISHED by the party for speaking JUST AS WE DO.

Kerry's going to win by sticking to who he is and who WE KNOW he is.....and leave the fear to the others who think more about MANIPULATING voters instead of respecting them enough to keep telling them the truth.

Hillary will NEVER tell the truth about a corrupt government. People will get excited more over someone willing to open the books than they will be someone who most definitely will close them.

Kerry is the only one who fits that bill, and he should run strong with it.

2. I agree!
The thing he has more of than any other possible person is his integrity and his commitment to honesty and anti-corruption.

I know some of you were unhappy with that rather lengthy post in GD about his chances, but what I thought was interesting, and the reason I kept posting replies to people, is that when you start talking about honesty and integrity and anti-corruption, people had to admit that that's JK to a "t." And they couldn't really point to any other possibilities. And they couldn't really deny that this is what we most need in our next president.

They gripe about people's perceptions. They object on the basis of the media. But I think if we continue to hammer home the point of the need to restore integrity to the government, how can anyone argue against that?

And, boy, that should resonate with people of all different points of view. What's the number one complaint about politicians? They aren't trustworthy.

You offer them a trustworthy politician that is also a wise, honest leader who has the courage to confront corruption instead of becoming part of it--how could any decent person NOT want such a person as president?

4. That is so true
The other thing is that for the last 2 years the media has said Kerry has no chance. If that's the case, why all the articles that now say this diminishes his chances? Think of it like if this were 2004 - let's say Kuchinich had been the one with the gaffe - a) would it be big news? and b) would you have stories that this diminishes his chances.

The other thing is the strange strching out of the time line. I was beginning to doubt my memory - so I looked to see the first post that mentioned it. Sandnsea posted the time Drudge posted it on Tuesday morning, then the Snow press conference and then Kerry's rebuttal. Kerry's rebuttal was around 9am Seattle time. This is clearly not waiting a long time.

The other thing being smudged is that the worst interpretation is the one that is actually true - there are people who do go to the army for lack of choices. It is intellectually dishonest to claim either that this insults the service or that it says everyone enters the military for this reason. Kerry NEEDED to fight the interpretation the RW MADE UP.

Also, this is a new standard. Bush has apologized for nothing. Cheney's statements that the terrorists want the Democrats to win - is more insulting to the half of the population voting for Democrats. Where is his apology. As to timing, Bill Clinton lied for 6 months about Lewinsky - even under oath - before finally telling the truth and apologizing - and no one mentions what that but the country through and what its legacy for the Democratic party was.

I do think that Kerry will have to do major outreach to veterans, likely getting vets who have known him for years to help. He has the record and the very reputation you speak of for honesty and integrity should help. That and the fact that he is obviously the one looking out for them in Iraq. The other question is will do you thing the veterans will accept Hillary, who is a woman, the wife of Bill Clinton and who may have made 60s comments herself. Other than Clark would they likely accept any Democrat. Edwards is Southern, but a trial lawyer.

5. I watched Russert's show tonight and the topic of Kerry and the
supposed joke came up. It was suggested Kerry doesn't have a chance, but Stu Rothenburg (sp?) dismissed that, claimed it was but a blip.
And that corporate mouthpiece Carol Lyn on CNN keeps bringing up JK. I guess her corporate mouthpieces are hammering that one continually because they don't have anything else.

7. That's exactly right.
Those early primary voters are the ones who set the pace for the rest of the primary season, and they aren't easily BS'ed. Kerry will have a YEAR to talk with them and work with them.

Here's another reason to feel positive:

http://www.electoral-vote.com/

Projected New Senate: 51 Democrats 49 Republicans

Pickups: Missouri Montana Ohio Pennsylvania Rhode Island Virginia

Projected New House: 240 Democrats 195 Republicans

Dem pickups: AZ-05 AZ-08 CA-11 CO-07 CT-02 CT-04 CT-05 FL-13 FL-16 FL-22 IA-01 ID-01 IL-06 IL-10 IN-02 IN-08 KY-03 KY-04 NC-08 NC-11 NH-02 NM-01 NY-19 NY-20 NY-24 NY-25 NY-29 OH-01 OH-02 OH-15 OH-18 PA-06 PA-07 PA-08 PA-10 TX-22 WI-08

GOP pickups: NONE

Wins on Tuesday = good for Kerry.
Positive feelings for the party = good for Kerry.
The opportunity to set the agenda in Washington and let JK be a leader on issues = fuckin' good for Kerry.

Yes, I'm feeling better too. The old excitement is coming back.

9. My opinion of him is unchanged and glowing, and I'm still wondering,
"WHY THE HELL DID ANYONE EVEN BLINK??"

Oh, wait, I forgot--his name is John Kerry and this is America. Big man, dealing with tiny minds.
