What if Kerry doesn't run in 2008. Will you still post items about him in GD? |
|
Just finding out if I was correct in saying that even if John Kerry doesn't run for president, that people can still expect to see us in GD and GDP, supporting the man, and reporting on his doings. Do you agree?

5. Good government is the point |
|
You're either vigilant and fight for it every second, or it can spin away from you before you know it. I think we've all figured that out. Maybe if we'd been more vigilant in the 90's, we wouldn't have lost control of Congress.

that is honest and open. What so many out in GD can't wrap their brains around is that for people who sincerely believe in rooting out corruption, Kerry just happens to be the one who has made it an important issue for himself as senator.

If he doesn't go for it in 2008, I'll support him and talk him up in public all the same -- but I'll be counting the days til 2012. He'll only be 68 then, and at the rate he's aging, he'll probably look 50 and move like he's 35.
But if he never runs for president again, I'll be a loud and proud Kerrycrat regardless.

|
in the Senate or elsewhere. Whether he ever becomes President or not he is the most exceptional stateman of our generation. An almost impossible thing to be when there are some charismatic 2 term Presidents. Imagine what a real honest biography of his entire life would be. He may be another man who would rather be right than President.

29. AG or Secretary of State |
|
I could see that in a worst-case scenario. (Well, not really the worst-case scenario, but there's no way that a Republican will win in 2008.) But he has the demeanor of a President. :P
Speaking of Republican '08 possibles, it must really suck to be them. Look who's being floated.
McCain -- old, decrepit, loathed by at least half their party Giuliani -- popular with moderates and the uninformed, but utterly unelectable due to scandal Romney -- a failed governor Allen -- Felix Macaca Condi -- damaged goods for close association with the Bushies Frist -- truly a botched joke Pataki -- far too liberal for the fundy wing, which is already enraged over their "betrayal" Huckabee -- a random Southern governor not necessarily even running Brownback -- a random right-wing senator not necessarily running
Here's how I'm seeing 2008 shape up.
On the Dem side, if Hillary and Obama both run, the race will boil down to Kerry and the two of them. JK and Obama both talk about the war and clean government, forcing Hillary on the defensive and eventually out of the race. Voters flirt with Obama but go with the experienced senator who holds the same ideas.
On the Rep side, there is only one way that anyone but a hard-rightwinger could win. The freepers and fundies are too enraged, and there aren't enough moderates left to counter their numbers. The party will nominate someone who barely shows up on the radar right now, someone like Huckabee or Brownback... or they will see a mass exodus of fundies to a third party challenger.
Either way, unless the new Congress fouls up royally, I think this is ours to lose.

11. Honestly, for me it was never about another run |
|
I began following American politics more closely during the 2004 campaign and supported Kerry but discovered most about him and his life only after the campaign was over. I didn't expect him to run again but was totally fascinated with his political achievements and more amazed when he continued to fight so hard after he lost the election. Whatever he does in the future is fine with me and won't change my admiration for him. I guess it's the same for most of you here and I'm glad that this group came together.

14. I still hope he considers seriously running in 08. |
|
This could be the year that ends all the myths about senators running and winning and snuffs out the southern boy strategy.
If our party can turn around Iraq and restore our reputation around the civilized world, look out for the middle class, I think we could win the presidency in 08- even though we would be a ruling majority. We could be the party of trust. The party to stick with to get the job done right. What do you think, can our party accomplish this? It would mean jostling the party away from the DLC clan, because they are for the status quo.

Who cares about conventional wisdom or flavor of the month? Neither will ever favor Kerry but that's fine because both are also a disastrous way to choose the next president, and most people are aware of that.

19. I don't really notice much difference-Kerry taking time off so it is quite. |
|
We have the flavor of the month (Obama), we have the Clarkies whenever he get a little attention, Gore, with that supposed remark to Daivd Gregory that he would like to jump in in 08, (personally, I don't buy into that) and ??? The same people pushing the same people. I will tell you what I noticed, people like Oberman and Stewart defending him, several large papers, Kos, and interestingly new people who have come on board because his name was in the news and they felt a need to defend him. Our city paper has had no less than four letters to the editor defending Senator Kerry in less that a weeks time. Kerry wasn't even noticed before. Things are quite now because Kerry wants it that way. When he get back into the PR thing, it will all heat up.

21. Well, I will say, I was a little shaken by the viciousness of the attacks |
|
against Kerry and it was an eye opener for me.I think we all felt it wasn't deserved and made us consider how all this will affect his family. It will get nasty, but how much more? The media did it's whore job again, but he did have his defenders and it just might get to a point where people ignore the media spin. They always try to discredit his support of the troops. That is a strong point for him and he knows or should know now that that is where they will aim their attacks- at this strong point and a couple others. Frankly, Senator Clinton doesn't even have any strong points that come to mind. She is actually very vulnerable to attack due to her lack of real decision making, the bills she has supported and her stands on issues like the war. If it wasn't for her name and the money that the name brings in, she would be viewed as an extremely poor choice for our candidate.

25. Her behavior over the past 6 years will bite her. |
|
Hillary has become a fundamentally weak person. She has been afraid to take a courageous stand for fear of alienating someone, and it'll come back to bite her. Kerry (and Obama, if he runs) will be offering concrete ideas. Also, her support is very soft. When they started polling with Obama, it cut into her numbers very badly, but Kerry's were untouched, alone among the field. Most of her support is just name recognition, nostalgia for Bill, and the idea that it'd be COOL to have a woman president this cycle... whereas with the Kerry supporters, it's based on ideas, integrity, and trust.
I don't see any flavor-of-the-month talk about any particular candidate anymore. Right before the election it was all Obama, but I don't see much of that now.

24. It never was about '08 for me -- some things are more important than that. |
|
What made me a lifelong Kerry supporter (and, yeah, I don't see that ever changing), was what happened after the election:
1. His emotional concession speech where he truly was in awe of all the people who had done everything possible to help him. He thanked them from the bottom of his heart, and said he wanted to put his arms around all of them. This came out of humility and humbleness -- it showed his character like I hadn't seen it before.
2. His going to the lame duck Congress session, inviting taunts from the nasty press, yet he went anyway because it was his duty as a public servant. This was two weeks after his loss. Yet he got up on the Senate floor and talked about how bad it was that the Senate had to raise the debt ceiling YET AGAIN.
3. His video which appeared that he was going to fight for the 11 million kids without health insurance. His decision that The Cause was so much more important than the results of one election showed the grit he possesses.
If he goes for it in '08, then I will advocate for a man of high character who only fights for The People, moreso than he would for his own ego. But if he sits this one out, well, I feel comfort that he will be in the U.S. Senate as a voice of conscience, and that's never going to change regardless of what job he holds.

From his recent interview on Bill Maher, his non-verbal reactions at the question, and "couldn't contain himself" signals...indicated nothing about him NOT seriously considering the 'Run'.
