OT: Max Cleland will not run for Senate in '08 (some thought he would)

In this post, Markos discusses how Georgia has REALLY trended red, and then he mentioned this:

Cleland might've made the race interesting, but he's suffering from PTSD and depression, and an uphill race in a state trending away from us probably wouldn't be the best therapy.




I apologize but I did not know this. Is this something that has recently come up or has it been ongoing since Vietnam? I do hope that he is okay and is getting excellent medical treatment (anybody see 60 Minutes last Sunday -- there is a pill which may dull traumatic memories, thereby alleviating PTSD).

what is going on in Iraq has brought back a lot also.

there was an article on him in the Los ANgeles Times magazine a few years ago and one of the ways he started to come out was by helping JK in Iowa. Cleland headed the GOTV of veteransa nd military and their families which was a huge reason Kerry did well.

but i believe he is doing ok. at least trying to deal as well as he can. helping other vets and such. you can't tell he is suffering from any depression when you see him.
