Need a laugh?
"The Boston Globe went out of its way to protect John Kerry on issue after issue, from the magic hat to the non-release of his Navy records."

That's not exactly how I saw things.

2. I'd be laughing,
if I wasn't crying.

Kerry did great this week - his stamina and sheer Weebleness (weebles wobble but they don't fall down) blow me away. But the general stupidity, wrongheadedness and disingenuousness of democrats is really getting me down.

At least you wouldn't expect anything different from Hewitt. He's just a right wing blowhard idiot. I don't care who you ask - even most of Kerry's trashers would agree the Globe bites him more often than it flatters him.

5. Boston Globe
Bottom line is that the Boston Globe has hardly been very pro-Kerry. I think they intentionally want to show their independence by bashing him at times.

As for the "issues" Kerry did release his records, which verified hs account.

I'm not positive about the speciifics but I believe magic hat is part o fthe right wing mythology on Kerry's mission to Cambodia. Conservatives claim Kerry was lying about being there. As it was a secret mission it cannot be 100% verified, but objective reporters did find evidence which helped to substantiate Kerry's claims (although he might have been wrong about the exact date he was there). (Speaking of Cambodia, I find it amusing that Swift Boat Liar O'Neil is the one who was actually caught lying about Cambodia as he has made public statements both that he was in Cambodia and that he wasn't. I guess O'Neil was in Cambodia before he wasn't.)

To the right wingers, the Boston Globe "protected" Kerry on these attacks since the right wing attacks were far too off the wall for any serious journalist to take them seriously That hardly means the Globe was protective of Kerry as they did go out of their way to get him on attacks which were not based on easily refuted claims from right wingers.

4. Hey, guys. Help a relatively new Kerry supporter out...
"magic hat"? I have totally forgotten what incident from the campaign or post-campaign era that is supposed to refer to.

6. Kerry carries (or did carry) a hat that was given to him from a CIA
operative he transported on his Swift Boat. This was when he said he was in Cambodia. The CIA guy gave him the hat, and Kerry carried it around during the 2004 campaign for good luck.

9. Here's on article about it (and nice pic, btw)
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/28/washington/28kerry.html?ex=1306468800&en=7158a80120f0ee5a&ei=5089

John Kerry starts by showing the entry in a log he kept from 1969: "Feb 12: 0800 run to Cambodia."

He moves on to the photographs: his boat leaving the base at Ha Tien, Vietnam; the harbor; the mountains fading frame by frame as the boat heads north; the special operations team the boat was ferrying across the border; the men reading maps and setting off flares.

"They gave me a hat," Mr. Kerry says. "I have the hat to this day," he declares, rising to pull it from his briefcase. "I have the hat."

Okay, that magic hat is STILL in his briefcase.

I'm going to look for another article, which I think is better, but we'll start with this.

10. Oh, this is a fantastic article -- the whole thing. But here's the magic
hat part:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A59559-2003May30?language=printer

But even in Massachusetts, polls have put his job approval rating ahead of his personal popularity rating. His friend Dan Barbiero said it comes down to Kerry's complexity: "There's still a lot of idealism in John. It's corny and people tend to be cynical, and coming from this big, patrician-looking man you wouldn't expect it. You look at him and say, 'He's putting this on.' "

It's been a hard rap to overcome in part because Kerry is reserved. He inherited it from his mother, along with her devotion to public service. "She taught us you stiff-upper-lip it," said his sister, Diana Kerry. "John is a man of the people. Of the little people, actually. He needs to project who he really is by simplifying."

And who is he, really?

A close associate hints: There's a secret compartment in Kerry's briefcase. He carries the black attaché everywhere. Asked about it on several occasions, Kerry brushed it aside. Finally, trapped in an interview, he exhaled and clicked open his case.

"Who told you?" he demanded as he reached inside. "My friends don't know about this."

The hat was a little mildewy. The green camouflage was fading, the seams fraying.

"My good luck hat," Kerry said, happy to see it. "Given to me by a CIA guy as we went in for a special mission in Cambodia."

Kerry put on the hat, pulling the brim over his forehead. His blue button-down shirt and tie clashed with the camouflage. He pointed his finger and raised his thumb, creating an imaginary gun. He looked silly, yet suddenly his campaign message was clear: Citizen-soldier. Linking patriotism to public service. It wasn't complex after all; it was Kerry.

He smiled and aimed his finger: "Pow."

11. When I read that I thought it was cool
because I also carry what I call a "good luck travel hat". I've carried it with me on every trip I've been on for the past twenty years. (Don't ask me why - I have no idear.) The really funny thing is that my good luck travel hat is Red Sox cap!
