I know, he would have had to continue to work for nothing, and we thought this was coming, but...

6. And don't forget Stephen Cambone
from the Friday news dump: http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2006/12/01/cambone_resigns/index.html

Key Defense Department official resigns

Even on a slow news day, there's no getting away from the traditional Friday afternoon news dump, and this one's got a biggie: Stephen Cambone, the Department of Defense official widely seen as Donald Rumsfeld's consigliere, has resigned.

Cambone has reportedly long been disliked within the military for his actions on behalf of Rumsfeld; indeed, in August 2001 Washington Post reporter Thomas Ricks told the story of a general who told a Hill staffer that "if he had one round left in his revolver, he would take out Steve Cambone." Cambone has also come under fire for his perceived role in the abuses at Abu Ghraib.

The DOD announcement says Cambone "looks forward to spending more time with his family."

8. Yippee!
I expect Cheney will resign soon as well. I've thought this all along (even before the shit starting hitting the fan) that Cheney would resolve so that the party's chosen presidential candidate could be appointed to replace him, thus setting him up for the '08 campaign. Maybe my tinfoil is wrapped too tightly, I don't know.

Besides, I'm sure Dick would like to retire early to spend more time with the lovely and talented Lynn.

3. I was doing my happy dance when I heard it
I'm alway doing that when one of these jerks goes down. My family thinks I'm insane. LOL What's the head-count now? Libby, DeLay, Santorum, Allen, Rumsfeld, Bolton, to only mention the most important of them. We will get to Cheney and Bush eventually. I don't know but even as a non-US-citizen I take this very personally and I'm very happy about every villain taken out.

4. who do you think we can reasonably hope for next?
I'd love to see, if not a Dem, some moderate Repub who actually has some diplomatic skills. Colin Powell comes to mind. Others?
You know who I'd really like to see? John Warner. I think he's an honest man.

10. Powell wouldn't be bad
He could redeem himself a bit for going along with the Bush administration. Sometimes I feel really sorry for him.

5. Just wait for some of the accountability hearings
And we really start to see how incompetent and arrogant these people really were, at home and abroad. Just wait.

7. how can he resign if he wasn't going to remain anyway?
Looks to me like he's grandstanding and resigning rather than letting his 'appointment' die out.

But this is great news!

11. Kerry's statement:
December 4, 2006

John Kerry on Ambassador Bolton's Resignation

“Like Secretary Rumsfeld’s departure, Ambassador Bolton’s resignation offers a chance to turn the page at a critical period. With the Middle East on the verge of chaos and the nuclear threats from Iran and North Korea increasing, we need a United Nations ambassador who has the full support of Congress and can help rally the international community to tackle the serious threats we face. This is an opportunity for the President to appoint a United Nations ambassador who enjoys the support necessary to unite our country and the world and who can put results ahead of ideology. There are many qualified candidates from across the political spectrum with the respect and experience necessary to be effective in this crucial post. The President should act quickly to nominate a United Nations Ambassador who can be confirmed with broad bipartisan support.”

AP article:

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, said Bolton's departure could be a turning point for the administration.

"With the Middle East on the verge of chaos and the nuclear threats from Iran and North Korea increasing, we need a United Nations ambassador who has the full support of Congress and can help rally the international community to tackle the serious threats we face," Kerry said. He said it was an opportunity for Bush to nominate an ambassador "who enjoys the support necessary to unite our country and the world and who can put results ahead of ideology."

I just sums it up so beautifully.

John Bolton will leave and open an anti-charm school for the diplomatically inept.
