Boston Logisitics: Airport Shuttles to Boston Hotels

Just need to take up some space to share some information and, hopefully, get some feedback.

There are several shuttle services that go from Logan Airport in Boston to the various hotels in town. Herre is the website with the schedule.

Anybody taken these? (I live here, so I haven't and should therefore not be giving out advice on what I don't know first-hand. LOL!)

I do know these shuttles are much cheaper than a cab. Should we start calling people on this? What would you like done?

1. Ouch! Those are expensive.

The best of the lot is that Star Shuttle Boston. Grab a friend and come in with them. $12 bucks to the Park Plaza. (Ouch!)

There is a subway ("T") stop at the airport. To get to the Park Plaza you would need to change trains. (In a new city, without your bearings and left to the tender mercies of Bostonians who generally really suck at giving directions because, generally speaking, you can't get there from here. LOL!) Hmmmmm.

It is theoretically possible to take the Logan Airport shuttle to the Subway on the Blue Line. (Free shuttle service.) Get off 4 stops later at Government Center. Take any Green Line train and get off 3 stops later at Arlington and bam, there you are. Theoretically. Hmmmm. This way would cost you $1.25. (For the complete Airport to Arlington St. subway stop trip.)

Who has taken a cab in this year from Logan? How much was it?

I think I will reserve with the last one. Actually, $12.00 doesn't seem that bad. It sure beats renting a car and DRIVING in Boston.

3. Couldn't you organize cab sharing?

For the people who come in at approx. the same time on Saturday and Sunday. That would make it less expensive for everybody.

Check with the other folks and see if you can share cabs. Ouch. This offends my native instinct to thriftiness. (Somebody's making a killing here.)

15. If you decide to go the T route

Be sure you get on the inbound blue line at the Airport stop (there is a free airport shuttle that circles around to all the terminals and drops you off at the T station) and then when you switch lines at Government Center get on any of the inbound green lines (there are four lines and it doesn't matter which as all go to Arlington). Just thought I'd add that in case people got confused by the inbound/outbound business.

That said being on the T with a suitcase is pretty much my idea of hell, so I'd recommend a cab.

16. the other NEW T route

is via the new "Silver LIne" -- really a bus that stops right at the terminal and takes you straight into Boston. It's the best way to get to the Red Line, as it takes you straight to South Station, where there is direct transfer to Red Line, with escalators (Government Center transfer from Blue Line to Green Line is kind of a hassle, since you have to maneuver a staircase that's not much fun with heavy suitcase. ) Park St. stop on Red Line is close to many downtown hotels ( including the Park Plaza, I"m pretty sure. . I remember at least walking to Park St Station from Park Plaza, but I didn't have a suitcase at the time, so walk with suitcase might not be so much fun. )

Also, if you need to transfer to the green Line , it's easy to do that at Park St., easier than doing that at Gov Center if you have a suitcase. .

17. This is a very good option

It takes time because of all the traffic due to that pesky leaky tunnel thing, but it is a good way to get into Boston. (That said, I prefer to T around Boston. I just lug my suitcases with me and travel at non-peak hours. The stations are better than they used to be and have escalators, which makes things better. Plus, my suitcase in on wheels.)

The Park Plaza is a 1/2 mile or so walk from Part Street Under.

18. I think if you have suitcases you'll definitely want to get off at Arlington

It's pretty much two blocks from the Park Plaza. But yeah, transferring to the Green Line is easier at the Park Street T stop because those stairs at Govt. Center ARE a bitch.

19. Took one a few weeks ago -

Very expensive - coming form the airport you have the tunnel toll, which adds about $5 to the fare. We paid about $35 to Brookline, I believe.

All fares leaving Logan Airport are charged a $2.00 airport fee. Travel through the harbor tunnels will cost an additional $4.50 toll fee. It is recommended that you ask the taxi driver for a receipt showing the driver's name, the taxi company, the amount paid, and the medallion number.

Ok, me, Island Blue and Beachmom, are all arriving around between 9 a.m and 9:30 a.m Saturday, so would it just be better for us to take a taxi ?

8. Thanks Tay!

I have a general idea about Boston after the great tour you gave us in October and can locate everything on a map now (bought one last time). You also convinced me not to rent a car and take the train to Salem on Sunday. I checked it out: from North Station about every hour or 90 min and it takes only 30 min to go to Salem. That's really great.

Julie and I will take a cab from the airport to the hotel because I hate it to be on a train or bus with luggage. But my friend Ulrike would be interested in sharing a cab etc. on Sunday morning.

Do you (or the other MA people) know where I could satisfy my daughter's consumerism? Is there a mall not too far from the hotel? Traveling with a 17 year old always means shopping duty. *sigh* She already complained to me that there is no PacSun store in Boston.

14. The hotel should have it's own shuttle

We need to call them. I will do so later on in the day. The Hilton, which not that far away has a complimentary (free) shuttle service from the Airport Subway stop to the Hotel, so I should think the Park Plaza does as well.

Apparently, this is one of the places you have listed already. Anyway, the fee is $14.00 per person for anyone who is interested.
The cost beats renting a car and driving so , I think the amount is a fair compromise.
