My uncle is finally back on DKos
and he wrote a diary about what he's been through the past few weeks.

Thanks to all of you who made comments and kept him in your thoughts.
I hope everyone in Boston is having a great time. I can't wait to hear about the birthday party!

1. Glad things are better
What a terrifying ordeal. I just can't even imagine.

2. Thanks Sandnsea. It was terrifying, esp for my cousin's immediate family
but I have to say things like this have a way of putting things into perspective.

3. What an ordeal for your cousin and family!
His fitness probably helped him in the long run. I wonder where he got the strep; isn't that a side effect of being in hospitals? I had never heard of this before. I'm glad he's on the mend.

4. Apparently it's not unheard of for this to happen (scary huh?)
But from what I understand, they aren't really sure how he caught it. It's something you can catch almost anywhere. He was in the hospital briefly(a different hospital) the Friday before Thanksgiving so i think its possible he caught it there, but its also possible that he had it and they just missed it the first time.

I think it definitely helped that he is so healthy. Actually when he was at his sickest, and I had just seen him and I was showing some mild symptoms that were similar (it turned out just to be a normal winter cold), I called my friend who's a doctor and she said that it sounded as if it was as serious as they were making it sound, but that the young and healthy have a much better chance of recovery.

Regardless, in even better news, he actually went home to his mom's house in Illinois today and hopefully he'll be headed home to California (and his wife and kids) soon.
