OT: Huh -- dailykos meets redstate about the troop surge
There's a diary on the reco list on dailykos about a poster who decided, fully disclosing who they were (a lefty), to post a diary on redstate. "Clammyc" ended up with a front paged diary! I guess redstate isn't as bad as freeperville, because the comments were respectful of the poster. Interesting anecdote -- profanity is not allowed on redstate. Hmm . . . makes me feel a little foul mouthed. Oh well.

Here's the link -- just cut and paste if you are so inclined:

As I said, it was a civil conversation, but what I was struck with by all the polite commenters was how much they want to kill. How much they want to blow things up. How they have absolutely no time or consideration for diplomacy or political solutions. They actually reversed Kerry's often quoted line about political/military solution by saying, "There is no political solution to al Sadr. He needs to be killed along with his followers." They went on to add that probably 100,000 Iraqi civilians would die from the operation, and one of them should be al Sadr.

Basically, the other side are warmongers who want to kill. And these people are Bush's base. Bush will NEVER betray them. However, the very last poster said this:

I've not heard anything that would lead me to believe a mere increase in our presence in Iraq would substantively change the nature of what's been going on there. Even if we ramped up by the 300-500K troops you mentioned, the insurgents would melt away as required until some later date, striking at targets of opportunity all the while. And we don't have those troops to send, anyway. The sooner we extricate ourselves, the sooner we can staunch the great wound this experience has become.

Okay, now if more conservatives would think like this guy (who, my God, is talking a little like Kerry and his 100K remark), well then, we can create a groundswell to get our troops out. It is difficult to accept, but we need that 30% of the population to give up on a military solution in Iraq before Bush may be inclined to yell "uncle". Clammyc was good to do this outreach.
