Sad news: President Gerald Ford has passed at 93
CNN is running a reel of old footage of President Ford on Larry King. Actually all the news channels are running footage.

1. I liked him as a person. Politics aside.
Him and his family were a welcome change in the White House. He was the first President I followed. When Nixon was in office I was just a young teenager and just followed my parents lead.
I remember Chevy Chase doing his Ford routine on Saturday Night Live. And, Ford seeming to have problems navigating the steps onto and off of the Presidential plane.

2. It was Ford who
finally got our soldiers out of Vietnam. And for that I am grateful. Also, Betty Ford did a lot to raise awareness about breast cancer & addiction treatment, by going public about her own battles with cancer & addiction.

3. Yes, I hadn't put the dates together, his time in office and the end of the
Vietnam War. Also, Mrs. Ford has certainly been an inspiration to many people. LOL, do you think maybe he and his family stumbled into the wrong political party?

6. He was a true moderate
He had a true friendship with Tip O'Neil, who was Speaker of the House while he was majority leader. He also was willing to bend on issues while he was President, because he knew it was important to bring the nation together.

Funny, Chris Matthews was saying their relationship and Ford's leadership was partially a reactin to the turmoil that preceeded .... maybe we can look forward to another, more moderate democratic president this time. I can't think of a single republican candidate who can take the reigns under that criteria.

4. You're right
Watching TV last night and this morning, Ford said he hoped his legacy would be that he healed the nation in a difficult time. I think that is fitting legacy.

7. IMO--Reagan International Airport should be Ford International Airport
because Ford actually was a uniter as well as a genuinely good guy who cared about our country. He didn't just represent the rich. And his legacy is based on truth not fiction.

Of course DC'rs usually call the airport "National Airport" so I have no clue why they changed it anyway. Particularly since the Republicans don't want dc to be a state. They still have no represntation. AND will the Democrats do it now that they're in control?

8. LOL
You're right....if you say "Take me to Reagan" they just say "which one" so I just call it "National" or "DCA"
