Hooray for Lawrence O'Donnell!!!!!!!!!!!
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 08:09 PM by whometense
Anyone see the McLaughlin Group?

In the segment titled "Most Underrated" O'Donnell said, "John Kerry."

:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

I'll post the audio and transcript as soon as they are up, but let me just say: I love Lawrence O'Donnell.

He added something to the effect of "don't count him out."

  Happy New Year.

1. He must have known you wanted him to say something nice.
:)

That's really great!

5. I do love him because for the most part
he just doesn't do spin.

But also for his appreciation of JK. It's sadly a rarity in public life these days, except among the Massachusetts delegation to admit to an admiration of Kerry.

Honestly, they went through the negatives ("Most Overrated" "Worst Political Theater", etc) and I was kind of holding my breath willing them not to bring up the joke. And they didn't. Cheney's shooting his friend in the face got several mentions, though. :D

I had the thought after I heard him say that, that a lot of prominent people who are currently being very quiet about Kerry may be supportively quiet, not wanting to raise the noise level around him. I don't think O'Donnell is alone here. I really don't.

4. Oooh, I will have to look for the repeat
How did the other panel members that that expression of support?

Yeah!

Happy New Year indeed. First we get O'Donnell, a true son of Dorchester, I think, (or maybe his Dad was) then, next stop, the world.

6. It was all rapidfire rounds, and very little arguing.

They covered a lot of territory in a half hour. They do put up an audio and a video podcast on itunes, and I assume it's available in other formats as well.

But I will say that no one laughed. Or argued.

Howard Dean's 50 state strategy got two votes for most underrated - from Eleanor Clift and Pat Buchanan(!)

And Tony Blankley called Obama most overrated (he had HRC as most underrated) :P

13. I don't think it was bleak
The statement KG posted where Kerry's staffer spoke of what they did in Iraq was great. My guess is that this is stuff Kerry would never have publisized - and it is amazing. Contrast the Leiberman/McCain photo op press conference from the Green Zone. (Hey, Kerry was at least very neatly dressed in the disputed photo!) Kerry was there to learn, to hear from the front lines - not to say he went.

I would love to see the town hall - though if it was taped, I seriously doubt it would be unclassified. I would imagine that the 100 soldiers were happy to have an open dialogue with him. In some ways, this could backfire on the ones who started it - if the explanation gets much play.

9. Woohoo!!
I don't think anybody will ever outdo his swiftboat rant. If we had just had 3 or 4 more O'Donnell's, Bush would be back in Crawford, watching his spittle drip to the floor.

Glad to hear he still knows who the Real Deal is.

14. Could this be the one that airs at 1 pm on Sunday on WHYY?
I hope, I hope!

I need to start watching this show just for Lawrence O'Donnell.

Though, I have to admit it's been a guilty pleasure in the past, to watch Eleanor Clift try to talk over Tony Blankley. :)

17. ADD YOUR COMMENTS on McLaughlin web page
From my first scan, the comments could use some help at
http://www.mclaughlin.com/bb/bb.asp?topicid=1958

Good news that quote is on home page: http://www.mclaughlin.com/
Kerry quote is the featured quote on "This Week", as "The Bummest Rap"

Transcript/video/ podcast doesn't seem to be up yet. It's only up to Dec 22 so far. But it will be posted at http://www.mclaughlin.com/library/library.asp

18. link to all the summary comments:
http://www.mclaughlin.com/thisweek/thisweek.asp

I noticed that the featured quote on the home page keeps changing: this link gets you to all of it. Note who Clift, O'Donnell, and Blankley name as "biggest winners". : ) . Also interesting to see what Tony Blankley has to say about "most boring". . .

20. A couple of comments that stood out to me:
From O'Donnell, Charlie Rangel will be the most powerful member in Congress, and will show his strength and wisdom
Rove will be called as a witness in the Libby trial
And from Eleanor, there will be a constitutional confrontation over subpoenas that will be issued.

  Bring it on!

I enjoyed that show!

And Tony lost a lot of weight; I wonder what his secret is? Depression maybe? ;)
