Kerry talks Rocket, Pats

WASHINGTON - Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, who attended yesterday’s White House reception for the 2007 World Series champion Red Sox , hasn’t been floored by the news that the Department of Justice might hold an investigation into whether Roger Clemens committed perjury when he testified before a congressional subcommittee two weeks ago.

“Am I surprised? Not completely, no,” Kerry said. “The law is the law, and the rules are the rules. That’s why people talk to their lawyers before they get involved in this process.

“It’s a tough business,” he said. “There are people who obviously have faced crises over not what they did or said, but over what they did or said afterward about what they did or said. And right here in the White House that has happened.”

Asked if he was in favor of an investigation of Clemens, Kerry said, “I don’t know yet . . . I didn’t see all of the hearings . . . I just caught a little flavor of it.

“I don’t know what the warnings were, what the statements were, what the protestations were.”

Kerry also weighed in on the Camera-gate allegations that are swirling around the Patriots . In this case, he has pronounced the Pats innocent.

“I have talked with folks from the Patriots, and I put value in their word,” he said. “I have confidence that they’re telling the truth.”
