I have not had a chance to look at his interview, but those who have, some insights over there would be nice.

1. Apparently, this story has been picked up by the traditional media
Here is ABC:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/03/kerry-obama-cou.html

And the Huffington Post:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/20/kerry-obama-can-bridge-d_n_92576.html

The comments are just awful, awful. I am sensing that people are treating this as something that it isn't. Sigh, sigh, sigh.

3. One more, MSNBC. And frankly, it is straight forward:
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/20/787719.aspx

Speaking of the race speech from Tuesday, Obama supporter John Kerry gave an interview with a local N.H. paper, reports NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli. In it, Kerry said the color of Obama's skin makes him uniquely qualified for president and even reach out to the moderate Islam world. During an interview with the New Bedford Standard Times, portions of which were posted on YouTube, John Kerry says bluntly that Barack Obama has the potential to “bridge the divide in religious extremism” because he is black.

“It would be such an affirmation of who we say we are as a people if we can elect an African American president, a young leader who is obviously a visionary and got an ability to inspire people,” Kerry said. “It will give us an ability to talk to those countries, to in some cases go around their dictator leaders to the people and inspire the people in ways that we can’t otherwise.”

The Massachusetts senator said Obama has an ability to perhaps even empower moderate Islam “to be able to stand up against the racial misinterpretation of a legitimate religion.” Asked by a reporter what gave Obama the credibility to do so, Kerry said, “Because he’s African American. Because he’s a black man, who has come from a place of oppression and repression through the years in our own country. We only broke the back of civil rights, Jim Crow, in the 1960s here. Everybody in the world knows this is a recent journey for America too. And everybody still knows that issues of skin and discrimination still exist.”

2. Thanks Beachmom
I am sooooooooo sick of these idiotic swiftboating nitwits. How low can they get taking something completely out of context? If I find out the Clinton monsters (Penn etc) had anything to do with this, I will join my youngest in writing in my small dog, Punky in if HRC gets the nomination.

5. Collusion, that is what I think it is. The Clinton's and some of the media.

No one will convince me that the Clinton's aren't behind the Wright story as well as this latest attack on Senator Kerry. It would be just like them to try and get back at him for not supporting her. They really are ugly people.

14. yup, I agree with you.
I'm also very very sick of all this ugliness. Saw snippets of HRC's cold non-answer about Wright on MSNBC last night-- very telling (and, also, for me, appalling)

4. remember when Kerry would talk about the time he stayed in Germany
and biking into the Soviet occupied part . Kerry sees Obama as the same thing. his life experiences allow him to understand things that others don't.

it's one of the things he loves about Teresa also. when i read about his reasons for supporting Obama i could see the same being true about his wife.

for someone like Kerry who has curiousity about the world these things matter.

you have people like Bush who never visited another country before he became President. sheltered from criticism by his people. and you see what a disgusting disaster he has been.

9. well, his show is always about race, so kind of both
but he had a poll up asking if Kerry and Obama are hurting the campaign with their comments.

it's expected from Dobbs though.

7. I just watched the video
and am trying to muster courage to go through the comments. IMHO what he said is 100% correct, and a gutsy though probably risky thing to say. He was talking about how O's background and life experience concur to give him a different and unique perspective and of the powerful symbolism of such a presidency and its possible beneficial impact. All true and worth saying, as long as we do not try to shy away from anything race-related as if it is a dirty word. I watched a bit of news and heard about the latest "uproar" about O saying that his grandmother is not a racist but just a typical white person. I am so SICK of all of this!!!!!
