GOP House Member calls Obama "boy." That's southern for n-gger.

by John Aravosis (DC) · 4/14/2008 03:30:00 PM ET · Link

You don't call a black man a "boy" when you're from the south, unless you're intending to harken back to the racist language of slavery, and then segregation, when all black men were called "boy" as a prejudiced pejorative. Even worse, the GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell was there when it happened. Here's what Rep. Geoff Davis (that's really his name, talk about irony) R-KY had to say about Obama:

"I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button," Davis said.

Again, in southern speak, everyone knows what "boy" means when it's said about a black man.

1. You mean the famous Mitch McConnell
who sings "What ever it is I'm against it" as he kills every cute little bill around?

2. More idiocy from Republicans (and a smack down by David Wade)
The National Republican Senatorial Committee, a group that tries to get G.O.P. senators elected, put out a new — and, frankly pretty silly in its footage — Web video congratulating Mr. Kerry on his nine-year anniversary of not passing legislation.

The video even uses a line from the classic ‘99 flick “Office Space” to deride Mr. Kerry for his Senate laziness. “Yeeeahhhh, I’m gonna need you to go ahead and come in tomorrow,” says the delightfully creepy boss Bill Lumbergh.

The Kerry camp fired back on its own: “N.R.S.C. must stand for ‘Nobody Really Shows Competence,’ ” said David Wade, a spokesman for Mr. Kerry. “When people get their facts this wrong they usually lose on the first round of ‘Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?’ ”

Then he added some hard facts:

In just the last two years, John Kerry has written and passed legislation that denied congressional pensions to corrupt members of Congress like Duke Cunningham, passed legislation to establish eye injury centers for Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, secured $13 million in disaster assistance for Massachusetts fishermen and put the Senate on record condemning Burma’s military junta.

One of Mr. Kerry’s challengers in the Massachusetts Senate race, Jim Ogonoski, plays on the same theme as the N.R.S.C. at his campaign Web site.

3. And here is the campaign's response
"It's hard to tell what is more outrageous," Obama spokesman Bill Burton says in a statement e-mailed to reporters, "Rep. Davis' condescending and personal attack, or his absurd and offensive claim that Barack Obama is not prepared to defend America.

"Geoff Davis may hide behind offensive tough talk, but he has marched in lock-step with Bush-McCain policies that have devastated our national security while Barack Obama has stood up against a misguided war in Iraq and worked with respected Republicans like Dick Lugar and Chuck Hagel to secure loose weapons and nuclear materials from terrorists." (together unfortunately with some extremely idiotic comments, at least the very few at the top of a list of ~400)
