Idle gossip: Kerry's name popped up on a 20 name list of possible VPs for Obama
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/15826.html

I also read comments about it on Kos, and the consensus is he was fairly damaged from before, so may hurt in electability. HOWEVER, a lot of people agreed that he would be the best VP to Obama (as in governing). Of course, I am opposed to him being VP, the biggest reason being that he is running for Senate in Mass. BUT, I just like his name popping up like this to show that the Obama people are thinking about him as such an asset.

1. watching CNN and Chris Dodd is mentioned

also. i think they are bringing up some names just based on his being able to get along and how they will be as VP. Kerry is probably among that group. it's nice that Obama can acknowledge people who do bring something.

but i think it does show that Obama will be someone that listens to Kerry . and unlike Harry Reid and some other Dem leaders that don't get along so well with Kerry, Obama will be someone much different.

2. Not going to happen as he is running for the senate, but it is good to see his name in the lists.

3. As for the "damaged"comments, well I think people forget that much of what went down in 2004
has been refuted and many people have a positive opinion of Senator Kerry outside some blogs and in the other world out there. Some naysayers forget that he almost won (I believe personally that he did) and Senator Kerry certainly has done a lot to improve on his reputation. Also, since the worse has been dome to him, there is nothing left for the Repubs to do to him. Remember how good he is at debating and how well he carries himself, how informed he is on the issues that concern us all and how well he speaks. The damage they talk about amounts to the same old tired talking points. The damaged goods suggestion is just being used as an excuse not to consider Kerry by some people.

Now, that said, I think he deserves high consideration, but he most likely doesn't even want this position. If asked to serve his country in this capacity thought, could he or would he turn it down? However, I think his thoughts and concerns are with Senator Kennedy and Massachusetts right now and doing what he can to elect Senator Obama as President and more Democrats to Congress.

4. Idle gossip indeed

I personally think that the list is pure BS. Not that some or even all the names are not under some kind of consideration, but I do not think it is info that was leaked, or if indeed it somehow came from the campaign or people associated with it (Conrad? Doubt it. Few people seem less likely to leak information) it was done simply to keep the media and other gossipers busy, nothing else. Maybe I put too much trust in what O said the other day about the next information on this subject that will come out being the actual VP name, but that's how I see it.

As for Kerry, it would be some kind of incomplete poetic justice, but I do not think it is a good idea. Many reasons, some mentioned by others here. Also I think it would be perceived as too "Cheneyesque", not a good thing. There are many potential choices that could be spun as Cheney redux, most of the names that are being thrown around actually, but I think that it would be the wors with Kerry (unless he gets Gore to accept the VP nod :-)).

5. I think Obama will look for a relative newcomer.
Someone well-qualified, especially on foreign policy/military matters who is not a long-time Washington politician. His message is all about change, and that means someone not so established as JK, no matter how progressive/liberal he is. (Of course I could be wrong--Obama usually comes up with something unexpected which is smarter than what most people imagine he'll do!)

I would really love to see him appoint JK to some office in his administration, if JK'd like to be in an Obama administration and not stick with the Senate. With Teddy likely retiring he might feel the need to stay on as senior Senator and try to fill those big shoes.
