1.
African-American turnout across the country was record breaking in 2004. (hat tip to karynnj :)) I never the AA pundits (i.e. Jeff Johnson from BET, Tavis Smiley, Tom Joyner or Joe Madison just to name a few), urban magazines (i.e. JET, etc.) or AA leaders mention that. They spent more time dissecting Kerry and the "loss" and spinning the AA vote as votes against Bush. Go figure.
Although Obama is projected to get 90% or above of the AA vote, there is still a word of
caution from Roland Martin of CNN. I agree that in the end it all comes down to turnout. (I also noticed that the AA press didn't cover Kerry's endorsement of Obama like others. I think I know why but will keep it to myself)
2. Kerry was involved with the Freedom Riders. This is a nice 04
excerpt from Essence magazine (if anyone hasn't seen it already. :)) and this nice
article. I wonder why the campaign didn't make it more of an issue (or did they?). I know Kerry isn't one for bragging on himself (this is a good thing), but I think it would have opened some eyes to the research challenged or internet illiterate that complained that he just didn't "get it".
There's more, but I just thought of commenting on them if no one minds me posting (or reposting) this info.
