Found a use for the Gates quote on terrorism in a LTTE
In my county's paper, there was a letter to the editor with the usual RW version of how McCain will keep us safe and Obama won't. I stayed under the limit, so I will see if they will print it.

Bill Rosen in his 9/9 LTTE, argues that McCain appeals to sense in how he will respond to terrorists. The fact is that, although McCain now is saying he was an early critic of President Bush, there are many on the record comments where he extolled Bush’s virtues precisely as Commander in Chief in 2004. His mindset is still that of the Bush administration and in fact, in 2000, it was he, not Bush who was for the neo-con agenda.

Last month, a US leader wrote the following on his ideas of how we should best fight non-state terrorists. He said. “"The struggle against violent extremists will not end with a single battle or campaign. Rather, we will defeat them through the patient accumulation of quiet successes and the orchestration of all elements of national and international power. We will succeed by eliminating the ability of extremists to strike globally and catastrophically while also building the capacity and resolve of local governments to defeat them regionally. Victory will include discrediting extremist ideology, creating fissures between and among extremist groups and reducing them to the level of nuisance groups that can be tracked and handled by law enforcement capabilities."

This was not Senator Kerry, who had advocated for such an approach as long ago as 2001. This was General Robert Gates in a Pentagon report. This is not consistent with McCain’s position, but it is with Obama’s. Kerry was right in 2004, Obama is right now.

2. I just hope they print it
I am proudest that I was able to stay in the word count limit without having to cut it down.

5. Great response
I love the way you concluded it after the Gates quote. Packs a punch.

They should publish it. Something's wrong if they don't.
