1. Happy Election Day!
It will be! I just checked my mail, and the messages from Michelle Obama, NAACP and MoveOn already made me proud. This is going to be a day full of light. I'm sending prayers for all the heroes today who vote in circumstances which may be difficult and all those who will be heroically and patriotically working to make sure the vote is safe. This precious American right will be defended and honored by millions of Americans today, and that makes it one of the happiest days of my life!

19. I voted 11:20 am, Eastern time : another pair of votes for O and JK :)
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 01:51 PM by MBS
My polling place (2 precincts) was packed. Went later to celebrate at a local Armenian bakery. The Greek Orthodox church next door, also a polling place, had a steady stream of people going in and out.
People are stepping up this time (except my stupid neighbors, able-bodied twenty-somethings who haven't even bothered to register to vote , To me, that kind of laziness and indifference is inexcusable; actually, it's sinful. Luckily, though, this time around, my neighbors seem to be in a distinct minority, thank goodness)

2. Yippee!
Many thanks to each and every one of you in this group. You've helped to keep me sane during the last four years and you are all very special people. Thanks to all of you guys from Mass for sharing your junior senator - I'm really hoping that today after 7:30 p.m., my state will have it's very own BLUE junior senator-elect!

4. Thanks, I needed that this morning after
Having heard 2 ads for Beatty before breakfast (no thanks),

Having seen the Hate ad one time too many,

Finding This. I wished sometimes some people remember elections are about people, not just chess.

I hope we go to a large victory that allows the Dems to make the changes that we so desperately need. I am cautiously optimistic, but cannot wait until tonight.

In the meantime, go Obama, Kerry, Markey, and please Defeat prop 1 here (and pass prop 4).

6. Yeah, I saw that. Sigh. A lot of people commented HELL NO.
The point is we don't have a time machine and these kind of "what if" questions are pointless.

I didn't watch TV yesterday because of the Hate Ad.

8. i just think of Katrina when people say these things
and of course the supreme court justices. it would have been tough for Kerry but i have never believed in the "it needs to get worse before it gets better" view which was a big part of the Green Party and Nader and may still be.

it's almost like when Republicans say we need to keep fighting in the war so the deaths of those who already died would not be in vain.

i do think Obama will be able to do more and that's a good thing but i will never support the view that we need things to get worse so we can get something better later when it comes to people's lives.

our fingers in Georgia, that we are the sleeper surprise state of the night. At the least, how about a little "Too close to call" for Georgia all evening? Now that would be SWEET.

Edit: Ha! Andrew Sullivan has Georgia on his mind this morning, too:

Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 09:32 AM by TayTay
Much love and thanks to everyone here (and you know who you are!) from Senator Kerry and all of us here in Boston. (Yes, he told me that and to send it on.)

Seriously, A huge thanks to "the team" from everyone here who knows how valuable your help and assistance and good will has been. I mean it when I say this is your day too! Revel in this. You earned it.

PS: Last night was a wonderful event. It was easily one of the funniest and most enthusiastic events I've been to.

Rep. Bill Delahunt was late for the rally. There were a couple of hundred people crowded into a room that was getting stuffier and warmer as time worn on. Rep Delahunt was supposed to speak after Joe Kennedy (the redhead) spoke and introduce Sen. Kerry. Well, there was a general fear that if this went on too long we would have people passing out from the room conditions. So. Sen Kerry took to the stage and decided to introduce himself as he "knew" Bill Delahunt would do.

To see what happened next, go to this link (which compliment's NoisyDem's video, btw): http://www.johnkerry.com/multimedia/entry/barnstable_democratic_town_committee_election_eve_rally_video/

We had a great time! Fired up, Ready to Go!

14. "We are going to make history." A recipe for making ...
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 10:56 AM by YvonneCa
...history:

Into a very large salad bowl, place one dynamic and intelligent candidate, several knowledgeable surrogates and a large and informed electorate. To this add a cup each of motivation, determination and perseverance. Add a pinch of hope and toss together slowly and carefully, until all ingredients are blended and unified. Serve on your favorite Constitutional platter. Serves ALL.

:patriot:

Yes, we are going to make history. Happy Election Day, everyone! :)

25. Hmmm, indeed.
There are all these wonderful signs. Voter turnout is skyhigh.

My husband told me that in my ward in my little town 500 people had voted by 10 am. That is the equivalent of how many voted in the entire election in the ward on Primary Day in MA this past September.

29. Here's another one. Two precincts vote at my polling ...
...place. In 2004, turnout was heavy...but balanced between both precincts. We voted electronically, with no paper trail.

In, 2006, turnout was lighter...but machines had attached paper device (which most people didn't notice).

For the primary earlier this year, turnout was again light. This time, however, we used paper ballots.

This morning when I voted, the parking lot was full. As I went to the door, I saw that there were two different 'lines', one for each precinct. One precinct (mostly voters from a 55+ community) had no wait. My precinct (mostly middle class families) line was out the door and into the parking lot by the time I finished. About a 40 minute wait.

What does it mean? Hard to say. But it was a hopeful sign to me that turnout was so much higher in the (I don't mean to be ageist, but I'm 58) non-55+ part of town.

32. Exit poll demographics from GA (again, any election exit polls should be ignored, but
demographics and policy questions are interesting to consider).

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7758919

GEORGIA -- POLL CLOSE: 7:00 PM

-- 30% of voters are African American (up from 25% in 2004) and 97% are backing Obama.
-- Whites are backing McCain by about the same margin they supported Bush in 2004.

The question is how did non-black/non-whites vote. We're talking Asians and Latinos. With 30% AA vote at 97% that makes the state very competitive IF their votes were counted. Plus, as I mention with non-whites/blacks, their demographic has increased a bit. It'll be close, I think. Disappointing to see white Georgians are as boneheaded this year as they were in 2004.

20. Happy Election Day!

Me knows I have been a handful the last 4 years (LOL!), but have always (thought know it was hard to show at times) appreciated the good vibes and support in the darkest hours after the 2004 election, but there is the light at the end of the tunnel. :hi: :grouphug:

Haven't commented much on the good senator's re-election campaign, but want to wish him and everyone involved on the ground in the Kerry and/or the Obama/Biden campaigns good luck today.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication these last days, months, and weeks. It will pay off in the long run. :applause: :toast:

Yes, we are going to make history tonight and the world will be watching.

Thanks again for the positive perspective (pics and video from the campaign trail :)) and....

Yes We Can!

:patriot:

P.S. I also want to thank Kerry for being an cool supporter and excellent surrogate for Obama. He rocks! :yourock:
