Teresa speaks at medical conference
Links in link below.

Teresa continued with her constant them that everything’s connected at a conference at the Herberman Conference Center in Pittsburgh last night. The historic conference brought together the top “science and experts on the impact of environmental problems on human health... Key issues to be discussed by participants will include the impact of environmental factors in breast cancer; the harm caused by mercury from power plants on the brains of children; and the need for hospitals to stop contributing to health problems caused by pollution by switching to green energy and adopting other green policies.”

Teresa encouraged the group of 250 doctors and scientists to make the connections between environmental pollution and cancers, noting "the belligerent indifference of our leaders in Washington toward environmental health issues… She said the group's goal should be to help "protect God's creations," one of a few slightly-veiled references to an ongoing rift between science and religion.”

Because we couldn’t possible pay attention to what a woman has to say unless we know whether she’s properly coiffed, it was important to note that she wore a brown blazer and slacks. (And her hair was unruly. And she was “opinionated.)

1. she is so impressive
she cares so much about these things. the media portrayed her in a horrible way but those who saw her for themselves knew she is one of the kindest people around. even JK knew this and wanted everyone to see who his wife was.

just thinking about how much influence and attention she would have had on these issues as first lady makes me sad at times. but i'm mostly happy to see her (and JK) continue speaking about these important issues.

2. I absolutely love her
Having lived in Montana for the better part of my adult life, I completely identified with this. I just realized, this speech was on the Kerry site and is one of the most inspiring I've ever read. I didn't save it, damn damn damn.

"The most amazing experience for me was to stand beneath the jungle canopy towering 120 feet overhead. It truly had the feeling and simplicity of a gothic cathedral. The trees were like pillars, often anchored by buttress-like roots. They grew in a mere six inches of soil. You couldn't help but wonder what sustained them, and then you looked at the ground and saw the interplay of mosses, ferns, mushrooms, insects and animals, and you began to understand the beauty and complexity and interdependence of life.
We are, all of us, like those trees. Even they depend on the kindness of strangers, and so it is for us.

No matter how high we may sometimes soar, no matter how invincible we may sometimes feel, we are all fed and nurtured and sustained by complex webs of connection. We all truly are in this together.

That, of course, is the essential but too often forgotten wisdom that lies at the heart of all the world's great religions-that we should love others as we love ourselves. And it is the wisdom at the heart of all true charity and philanthropy."

6. Hi!!!
Glad you found your way here! To think, I didn't want "candidate" forums because I thought they would be too divisive. lol. Now I wouldn't trade our little hidey-hole for anything!

9. i felt that way also at first
but it's mostly good just to discuss or talk about things without having to deal with stupid attacks and bashing which usually has nothing to do with what is being discussed in the first place which goes on in other forums.

i also love it as a way to meet people and to see that they "get" what we are feeling and thinking.

Her remarks in an opening address for the Health and Environment conference at the hospital's Herberman Conference Center included a barbed reference to "the belligerent indifference of our leaders in Washington toward environmental health issues."
