Sen. Wyden was great today
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 01:50 PM by TayTay
I was proud of him in talking about the Patriot Act. He was making the (wonderful) case that the Rethugs are trying to go beyond Patriot Act I to create the civil rights nightmare that would be PAtriot Act II.

Wyden is a great Dem! I like him a lot. I am sure that his leadership on this issue and on the Energy Bill will provide an example for all the Senate Dems. (Particularly those lackard NE Dems, right sandnsea> Seriously, he was great. I ment all of the above except the snarky NE line.)

You are just going to have to live with it. I like your Senator. I think he's fine. And he made a speech today. My Sen. did not, though I heard somewhere that one was anticipated. Maybe tomorrow.

1. In fact, Wyden is all NE Democrats believe in
People who will oppose when they think that something is fundementally wrong, rather than trying to find an illusory compromise.

He has really grown on me a lot these last few months, as I was taking time to learn about him, and this speech today concerning the Patriot Act was excellent.

2. Sandnsea, at one point, wanted a trade
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 02:45 PM by TayTay
Kerry for Wyden, straight up (Okay, for a limited time only so Whome doesn't have a heart attack, but still.) I was telling her that I really like Wyden and might take the trade. (For a limited time only so Whome doesn't have a heart attack.) She likes him too but her ardent support for Democratic Senators is a matter of degrees of ardor, some more than others. (Can I obfuscate with the best of them or what?)

Okay, Sandnsea, limited time only. You got six weeks. (Whome, it's only so that we can prove that old adage that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Please don't be mad at me. Sandnsea deserves a break and Wyden is a good guy.)

3. Hey, I have nothing against Wyden.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 04:31 PM by whometense
He's a good guy. Don't forget I can't help my condition. John was imprinted on me at a very young and impressionable age, which I guess makes him my heart's senator for life. Or something like that. :loveya:
:-)

On edit: Seriously, could my heart get any fonder??

4. Wait until you really need him
He voted for Healthy Forests and the Medicare bill. Some others too over the last 4 years. He's full of himself now, wait until he's up for election again, then see if you want to do even a 6 week trade.

Like I've said, Wyden's okay, but puhleeze, he's no NE Dem.

5. No trades on Senators
Sorry everybody, you'll have to go elect your own Democratic Senators. Massholes are pretty attached to Kerry and Kennedy. But we've got a governor you can have permanently, free of charge. In fact, we could probably take up a collection and pay you to take Mittens off our hands.

6. hey you've gotta share!
Kerry belongs to all of us now! I know I've got a Feingold and a Kohl, but I don't think I would have gone out and campaigned just for either of them. But Kerry got me out that door, and Feingold got his volunteer work from me too, in the process.

7. The Massholes have spoken.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 08:25 PM by TayTay
There will be no trial Senator exchange. I have thought about it and I find it to be a slippery slope. First we trade for a few days, then the next thing you know, Sandnsea is borrowing Kerry for a vote on a Bush nominee, then it's a supplemental bankruptcy filing and before you know it, I've lost him. Sorry. Whome, Rox and possibly Mass would never forgive me if I let Kerry slip away.

Hey, I looked up the Healthy Forests vote and my esteemed Junior Senator didn't make it. There were 6 no-shows, 5 Dems and 1 Rethug. The vote was held Oct 30th, 2003 so I guess JK was running hard for the Dem nomination. (Sigh!) My other esteemed Senator was one of 14 who voted against.

I can't even pretend to offer a trade on Uncle Ted. It is unthinkable to have Uncle Ted function in any other state but Massachusetts. The Greatest Senator Who Ever Lived just belongs here and that's that. (He is as much a part of Massachusetts as Faneuil Hall or Fenway Park or Cape Cod.)

Besides, I would miss my greatly and deeply esteemed Junior Senator. I have grown accustomed to him. He is wicked smaht, you know. And I am partial to him.

8. True. I'm sorry.
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 08:20 PM by TayTay
I feel like I have to do penance now. (Two 'Our Fathers', Five 'Hail Mary's' and a picture of Santorum to stare at in the pews. That should be punishment enough for even thinking of such a thing.)

Ahm, I promise never to do such an awful thing again with out asking permission. There, better?

9. Damn I missed it!
Please tell me there's a published transcript. I was keeping an eye on C-SPAN until I had to go out around 2:30, I didn't know until reading your afternoon post they didn't start until 2 today, or I would have run the tape I had ready for John.

10. THERE WAS NO SPEECH TODAY
April from Sen. Kerry's staff said the Senator stayed home in Boston and worked on his speech (or played with the dog or vegged out in front of the tube or something that meant he was not in DC. Maybe he was in residence in Beacon Hill, maybe in Georgetown. Whatever. There was no speech today.)

Kerry is known to be something of a perfectionist in the speeches he writes himself. (The IWR speech which he finsihed in the wee hours of the morning of the day he gave the thing.) Seeing as this has turned into a big deal, I am guessing (guessing, mind you) that he is working on this and making it read just the way he wants it.

Maybe tomorrow. (Though tomorrow has some damn good committee hearings that are right up his alley. I mean really, a Finance committee hearing on how to safeguard pensions, in light of the United Airlines fiasco. This is Democratic manna-from-heaven. Then the Foreign Relations sub-committee meeting in the afternoon of the Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs
Lisa Murkowski, Chairman
John F. Kerry, Ranking Member

I think he will show on those sub-committees (But I could be wrong.) There are votes scheduled for 12:00 and 12:30, then the Tuesday afternoon Caucus luncheons. I just don't know where this speech fits in. (But who died and made me Gawd. He could blow off one of the comm meetings and fit it in.)

11. I meant Wyden and the Patriot Act
That's my big issue and I'm writing an article on it. I could use a transcript. (I also used the Patriot Act as a subject for my advanced rhetoric class--same topic all semester with different types of essays. I did my critique on one of Orrin Hatch's, that was fun). So I'd love to read that speech. Sorry I was muddled in my haste to scream about missing it.

I'm perpetually confused about the senate schedules, but I read earlier posts about John not giving his 'impeach the lying SOB' :D speech today. It'll be great--whenever it gets delivered.

Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 09:42 PM by TayTay
and is sorry. (Grovel, grovel, grovel. I think I'm having a bad day. First I give away a perfectly good Senator, then I misunderstand some posts. Sigh! I shudder to think what might come next.)

Go to www.dembloggers.com They have excerpts. The Congressional Record will have a complete copy of the speech tomorrow morning.

(Grovel, grovel. Sorry.)

It's thoroughly undignified. We all make mistakes, being mere humans. Staring at that picture of Santorum is more than enough penance. :spank:

today. Groveling has ended.

Thank Gawd for the Globe and the longest running pissing contest in local history. All better now.

You're right. I am re-dignified. (Okay, I'm making up words now.) All better.

They (the Globe) always seem like they're trying to say, "See, we aren't playing favorites. Watch us bash our Jr. Senator."

18. please don't grovel...
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 08:01 AM by vinessa4freedom
I'm quite consistantly impressed with TayTay coverage of the senate and Kerry beat. I read you for news these days, as you have a way of condensing and posting links that roughly equals TruthOut. If you knew how much research time you've saved me, you'd start charging, so I won't tell you. Don't worry about the misunderstanding--I was unclear.

When the Yankees beat the Red Sox for the American League Championship, however, groveling will be welcomed and appreciated.

You know I love ya, TayTay.:pals:

on edit: thank you for the links!

19. Geez, the groveling keeps me humble
Thanks! Wow! That was nice. A grovel now and them is not a bad thing, as long as I don't wear a hole in pants doing so. I will get over it. I'm back to being full of piss and vinegar, none the worse for wear.

Thanks!

21. general grovels are ok once in a while
just don't direct them at me--I wouldn't want it to go to my head. Then I'd need to grovel, and we'd just be repeating the same vicious cycle. Hardly productive. I'm glad you're back to piss and vinegar. It would have sucked if someone rushed in and stole your senators while you were busy groveling. Have I mentioned that Hillary hasn't been impressing me the last couple of weeks? Not that I would dream of snagging Ted or John...;-)

if there were jeans, rolled up sleeves, and, um...finger size factors calculated in the snagging requirements.
