KERRY '08: It all starts right here.
I am officially starting this thread to help raise support for John F. Kerry to run in 2008 for the Democratic nomination for the presidency of the United States.

I don't need to inform the members of the group of the enormous contributions that Senator Kerry can bring to our country and our highest office. So there it is folks, Kerry in 2008. Let me know what you think and if you're onboard with the cause.

For those that still don't believe in the viability of a second presidential run, see this link: http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/2004-11-29-presidential-losers-forum_x.htm

2. As long as he's president sometime in my life
I'll be okay. Question: if a messy scandal that takes a couple of years to materialize proves conclusively that Bush & Co had the election rigged and that John Kerry was the actual winner, is there any legal way for him to assume his rightful place as the president? Obviously there is no precendent for that, so I wonder what would happen.

3. far to early, and i leave it up to Kerry to decide for himself
what he wants to do in the future.

i don't want to get involved in anything that pushes or asks him to run. i want him to run if HE WANTS to just as he did this year.

what happens in 2006 is more important as are the issues and things that will come up between now and then. Kerry is still Senator and he will have to deal with many of the things that happen and keep his focus on that for now.

6. i hope no one takes this the wrong way
Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 09:16 PM by Faye
and i hope this doesn't sound self centered......but at least until someone is inaugurated in January, can we please keep all Kerry '08 SPECIFIC discussion in this thread? Some of us are not ready to talk about 2008 right now. I do apoligize if this sounds selfish! But I really love coming to this forum and reading all the good things about him and seeing so many people supporting him. but the last thing i want to do while i am actively following the 2004 investigations, i don't think i can bear coming to this forum every day and seeing 2008 everywhere :(

i understand anyone who thinks i'm being ridiculous. i hope someone can understand where i'm coming from :( I'm not asking for NO talk about 2008, but asking if there's any way can keep the discussioin in one thread for now...

I have even been forcing myself not to talk about my hopes of the election being overturned so that this forum would stay somewhat neutral.

am i making any sense? :scared:

7. i agree, it's such a long way off
and there is no gaurantee he would run anyways.

i would rather focus on what is going on at the moment. sometimes people get so caught up in some future goal and don't look at what is going on now. what if kerry doesn't run again? this is why when you were trying to start this group i suggested we keep it a general Kerry group which isn't focused on any specific goal like a future run or anything. this way we can discuss and keep talking about issues no matter what happens.

8. yes, you are making sense
I haven't given up hope yet on 2004 either. Looking forward to 2008 has been therapeutic. I'm still counting on last minute miracle that allows us to be free of the regime on Jan. 20. I can't, however, allow myself to focus on it so exclusively that I feel as devastated as I did after the mock election. I have never felt such gloom and fear and shock. Looking ahead to '08 keeps me ready to see the next goal, which will be important if our miracle doesn't come. He may not run again, but if he does, I want to be ready to go it again. Now it's my turn to ask-does that make sense? I've never been this emotional about a candidate or a campaign. I'm not ready to give up on John Kerry whatever happens in the next few weeks.

10. Yes indeed
I think that's all we're trying to say. We're still with him, no matter what happens this year or in the next 4. If he runs again, I'll be there. And I'll be paying attention to him in the Senate if that's where he ends up.

16. RE-Elect Kerry 08
That's what I'm focusing on now. But, should that not come to pass, I will still support John Kerry for president in 2008.

17. I woke up this morning thinking about that
John Kerry's re-election in 2008. A second term of real progress. God, that would be great.

13. Your posts have been great
and I totally agree. However this thread was merely established to voice my support for John Kerry if he decides to seek the 2008 nomination. However, I would be overjoyed that I didn't have to wait ANOTHER 4 years to make him my president. By starting this thread, I am by no means giving up on the present day.

Like mentioned before by other members, we will have ALWAYS have the Senator's back both here in 2004 (where I earnestly hope he wins the presidency) and in the future as well. In my eyes, he will always by MY president.

14. Thanks
Hey you know he's getting involved in the recount. We have to have his back, people accuse him of abandonding us, then they do the same to him and some to even the party, hell I ain't giving up. If Kerry runs in '08, he gets my support, of course I hope to god he's running for reelection.

If John Kerry runs for the President of hell, you can count me in. I am also a wearer of Saran Wrap Headgear :tinfoilhat: but things are just a little too fishy in America... I have supported this man like no other, and I don't care what anyone says, He is my President. 2k8? hell yeah, 2k12, hell yeah. Any time in my lifetime, Yeppers, count my ass in.

18. A message of encouragement
The Kerry-Edwards ticket wasn't wiped out by Bush-Cheney. Kerry got more votes than Ronald Reagan and harnessed an unprecedented wave of voter turnout for the Democratic candidate. He decisively won the youth vote in 2004, in 2000 it was split between Gore and Bush.

Kerry did better than expected against an incumbent wartime president. On the contrary, the notion that he is far from electable is shot. Of all the candidates during the primaries, Kerry was clearly the most qualified. And it can be argued that Edwards brought a dynamism to the ticket that Kucinich, Clark, or even Dean could have brought.

Just because Kerry lost the election doesn't mean his viability as a candidate is utterly destroyed. We need to stop throwing away our defeated candidates as if they were garbage. I still believe Al Gore and John Kerry can make great contributions to our country and support them in any future endeavor they choose to make, including another run for the presidency.

19. Thank you!
I agree with you completely, Forever Free. Especially that last point: Why oh why don't people see that having run for President before can be an ASSET, when the election was so close? Gore and Kerry are both familiar to the public now, and they both have their passionate supporters. It'll be hard for the Repubs to dredge up new dirt on them that they haven't thrown before. Either or both candidates could build on what they've already done.

I don't understand this obsession with "You get one shot and you're done." It makes no sense to me. Why do we "have to" start from scratch every four years?

21.  I adore JK but I want to win NOW and I would NEVER
contribute to the DLC. They have lost us three elections in a row(if we lost this one!) They are repug lite and did nothing to help Kerry and even less to help Gore. They are out of touch neanderthals who need to dump centrism. It cost Clinton Congress. They need to move on!
