More on Kerry and DSM
I hope it comes soon, but it is now clear that there will be a statement on the floor of the senate.

http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston/news_features/this_just_in/documents/04747410.asp

In a statement e-mailed to the Phoenix on Tuesday, Kerry spokesman Setti Warren said, "Senator Kerry believes every American deserves a thorough explanation of the Downing Street memo. The Administration and the Washington Republicans who control Congress insult Americans by refusing to answer even the most basic questions raised in this memo about pre-war intelligence and planning for the aftermath of war. That’s unacceptable, especially with the lives of America’s sons and daughters on the line. John Kerry will demand answers in the Senate. Stay tuned."

Kerry is right to demand answers. And though the Downing Street memo tells us little we didn’t already know, maybe it will prove to be the catalyst to finally holding the Bush administration to account. On Tuesday, both Bush and Blair attempted to play down its importance during a joint news conference, a sign that the issue may finally be gaining traction. Kerry — like a majority of senators — made a mistake when he voted to give Bush the authority he needed to go to war. But it was Bush who failed to follow through on the diplomatic front by building a genuine international coalition around the issues of Iraq’s alleged weapons capabilities and terrorist ties, as he had promised to do. The memo is further evidence, if any were needed, that Bush never even intended to try.

1. yes--we don't need convincing, but
it might help some repubs "see the light", and also provide something substantial for brave members of the media to hang other things on. I believe it will all come out eventually, even in this repressed political environment.
I think Kerry, when he does speak up, will do it very effectively, and cut them to the bone! He's not one to just jump on a bandwagon and react, but he looks into things carefully and thoroughly and does it his own way. We'd expect nothing less. :)

2. I agree.
Did you see him in committee this morning? Good lord - he makes every republican within 20 feet of him look like an incompetent boob.

:loveya: Oh yeah, and he was wearing those glasses...

3. no--didn't see it
too much to do this morning. But I believe you: there is no doubt about the superiority and alpha-maleness of the guy, in every way. :)

4. I could see why he was identified as the best Senator
on techonology issues - With the exception of Allen, I think every other speaker alluded to something Kerry said. I wish this type of thing was seen by more people.

5. And Senator Barfbag was just awful again!

Kleeb, FedUpInBushCountry, help me out here. What the hell goes on in Virginia? George Allen is the biggest boob I have ever seen in the Senate. He actually said today, "If Gutenberg hadn't invented his press, nobody would have read Martin Luther's theses." (paraphrased from memory, and it sounded like Luther's feces, which is even worse.) WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN???????????????????????

I know I am a snotty Masshole bitch and that I'm very partial to my home state Senators but how in Gawd's name did that complete mental defective ever get elected? Fraud? The voters were not told what day the election was? They thought it was some kind of Special Olympics event and they rewarded Allen? What?

This is the third committee hearing I have seen him publicly mourn the fact that his Seeing Eye Senator was not there to guide him. (Apparently Senator Wyden was a mensch and took Allen under his wing and taught him things like how to sit up in a chair and how to use the microphone and how to pronounce 'Nanotech.' What a guy.)

I cannot abide Senator Barfbag at all. He is a moron. It was both funny and excruciating to watch him in the same committee trying to question the same set of witnesses as Senator Kerry. (Okay, I'm a bitch, but I thought it was like watching Bambi vs. Godzilla, ferchrissakes.)

Honestly, go to the web site for the Senate Commerce Comm and check out this video. About 50 minutes into it, you can see Kerry lucidly and intelligently grill the witness with great and piercing questions. (And then everyone cribs off his exam sheet.) Then you see Sen. Barfbag attempt to come up with something that is marginally intelligent. It's just embarrassing as an American to witness this.

So what the hell went on in Virginia? How did the great and noble old Commonwealth of Virginia wind up with this retard as it's US Senator?

6. He was truly brilliant.
Sees the big picture so clearly. It was great evil fun to watch Allen floundering around after Kerry spoke, trying (and failing miserably) to match him. }(

7. It was a moment
I was genuinely afraid once Kerry left the room that Senator Allen would not be able to find the words to just conclude the hearing. I felt like yelling, "No John, don't go, I don't think he can handle it. I really don't. He might just fuck this up."

Am I being too harsh on ole Barfbag? Is he really that dumb or am I just a stuck-up Northeast Lib? (Is it me? Are my standrds too high? I am not willing to settle you know. Once you go Kerry, it's hard to go back.)
