This Christopher Hill (Asst. Sec. of State, East Asian & Pacific Affairs) character is a real snotty, defensive piece of work, even with Hagel questioning him. He has a "how dare you question me?" tone in his voice. No wonder * likes him.

7. Interlude: This is a big hearing

And a vote on CAFTA is expected. I expect that this will be heavily covered.

Working Families has an activist alert to tell him to oppose this until there are strong environmental, human and labor rights regulations in it. Baucus might do better this time because corporate power and trade is something Schweitzer ran on in Montana.

9. There was an interesting WaPo story this weekend

on CAFTA. The US Chamber of Commerce is threatening Rethugs with a loss of contributions over a failure to support CAFTA. Interesting. One newspaper report I read said that a vote *might* come tomorrow on this in Finance. This comm and the one on the Korean Six-Party talks are being held concurrently. Both are important.

This hearing will examine the introduction of non-native species through the discharge of ballast water from ships and the current threats to coral reefs.
