2. What exactly was the misinformation Kerry spewed on Iraq last year
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 12:48 PM by karynnj
Even the "wrong" statement on the cost turned out to be as accurate as available information allows. Also the "New Al Gore", there are worse people to be compared to. Well, he was proven right after Newsweek called him a randy conspiracy nut. Why doesn't he explain that the New Bedford people saw him as their distinguished junior Senator and seemed happy he visited them?

I assume from the title this author is associated with PNAC.

3. Plus a bad picture.
Why is CBS News publishing a Weekly Standard column, anyway???

Got a nice pic out of that slime, anyway.

Kerry sits with Sen. John Glenn, R-Ohio, from left, and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in Vietnam in 1995. McCain was a prisoner of war in Hanoi when he heard about Kerry leading anti-war protests, and was so incensed that he campaigned against Kerry in later years. Since then they have visited the prison, the infamous "Hanoi Hilton," together and formed a close friendship old comrades in arms would understand. (Photo: AP)

4. All Hate and all Distort all the time
Kerry hasn't spoken on the floor yet about DSM (or released a dedicated press release, as we know.) The PNAC people, who did , after all, devise the horrible Iraq War invasion are taking preemptive action against and enemy.

They want ot get him before he gets them.

5. I get that, but
what is the connection between CBS News and the Weekly Standard? And do they have a similar connection to, say, the American Prospect??

6. Not sure. They might have just picked it up
because of interest. The Weekly Standard is owned by (surprise, surprise) News Corporation Ltd. (Rupert Murdoch) not Viacom with owns CBS. (http://www.globalblogs.com/cgi-bin/tseekdir.cgi?location=Root-Media)

CBS probably had decided as part of their castration process last year in the Dan Rather 60 Minutes II Bush debacle that they have to run a certain amount of Wingnut stories every week.

12. They run the gamut.
I've seen these all on CBS online for awhile:

The Weekly Standard, NRO, Christian Science Monitor, TAP, The Nation.

http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/opinion/main215.shtml

It seems they usually run at least one piece from each side simultaneously on their opinion page. It could be worse.

7. Their pre-emptive attacks make sense
Assuming that Bill and Hillary Clinton don't speak out against PNAC or about the DSM, who is the most credible person from a national point of view? Kerry and Gore (and possibly Kennedy) have the most visibility. They may have succeeded to use Gore's anger (as they have Dean's) to marginalize him. Kennedy is almost considered to be from a different era. Clark, doesn't have as much visibility, but if he is at the same place as Kerry - he might become a spokesperson.

At this point, Kerry has annoyed the media by staying around, looking good, talking very rationally and sending out his emails. Kerry was the most articulate anti-war voice of his generation in the 70s. I would bet his outrage on having all of these things confirmed in the DSM is at least as great as the outrage he felt in 1971, because this time he's one of the Senators.

Also, I think they want to eliminate any strong voices. They will easily marginalize Dean, as he makes it easy. I'm not sure where Edwards, Bayh, vilsek, or Warner are on this issue. Conyers is great, but he is considered to be outside the mainstream (though Delay gets press.)

that wacky Conyers - he even believes there was election fraud. Can you believe it??

I felt my heart swelling with pride when I was reading your words. I'm proud that they haven't managed to marginalize him, in spite of all the help they've had from our own lefty freepers.

Did you get the new email yet?? I LOVE this:

    Dear xxxxx,

The Bush White House and the Republican Congress are living in their own world. But, they're messing up ours.

The Washington Republicans ignore facts, push aside America's real problems, promote partisan sniping and division, and flat out refuse to turn their attention to finding ways we can work together to make America stronger.

We may not be able to change their minds -- or their hearts. But, we have to change their behavior.

I really love this man. He speaks for me. With eloquence, dignity, and compassion.

10. And for me - more than any politician, statesman, or leader
It sounds so much like he speaks. I love that he is still reaching out over the heads of the media. I do think they've tried to marginalize him, but there is some sense of fair play. The media had lots of fun playing with his grades, but they only demonstrated their own lack of fairness. People who saw him at the debates know that as a 61 year old he is well spoken, intelligent, and he knows his issues - that he had a bit too much fun as a college student didn't stop him from being an exceptional Navy officer, prosecutor, and elected official.

11. oh we can be sure he's a threat to them, all right
He isn't and never has been someone who can be bought. Stays on the case and tells all! Go John! The truth is their worst enemy.

Hm, first they try to ignore it, and now things are heating up and they are trying to marginalize the messengers. Hmmm.

I'm disappointed in CBS for carrying the Weekly Standard and am going to tell them so.
