from a news conference that Mary Landrieu and George Allen held on the apology on lynching bill. Kerry was there to show support to them and their bill. the man in the wheelchair is James Cameron who survived an attempted lynching against him.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/news/061305_ns_push_edwards.html Senator John Kerry was supposed to attend the convention as well, but he opted out citing what he called a scheduling conflict.

That woman at the podium is Janet Langhart Cohen. She was a Boston anchorwoman in the 1980's who later married Sen. William Cohen form Maine, who was Defense Secretary for Bill Clinton. She is a wonderful and amazing woman and I am not a bit surprised to find out that she played a major role in getting this Senate resolution drawn up and passed. (No wonder Sen. Kerry was there. I'm sure that Ms. Langhart Cohen made quite a pest of herself getting this passed and that someone like Sen. Kerry must have loved the hell out of it.)
