Dorgan, Kerry Host Roundtable to Present Findings
New Report: Private Accounts Would Cut Benefits, Increase Costs for Small Businesses
15 June 2005

Sen. Byron L. Dorgan, Chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee and Sen. John F. Kerry, Ranking Member of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, today held a roundtable discussion and unveiled a new report highlighting the detrimental impact Social Security private accounts would have on small businesses.

Dorgan, Kerry Host Roundtable to Present Findings

“Increased costs. Benefit cuts. More red tape. Lower profits. This report clearly shows the disastrous effects privatization would have on America’s small businesses. Yet the President continues to promote a Social Security proposal that will drag America’s small businesses and their employees backward. Private accounts won’t work for Social Security and they won’t work for small business," Kerry said.

The report shows that the President’s Social Security privatization plan would cut benefits for small-business owners and employees, many of whom rely on Social Security as their sole source of retirement income, and would burden small-business owners with costly administrative requirements to establish and maintain private accounts.

1. The guy is just everywhere
isn't he?

I don't know about 2008 and I know JK wants to concentrate on 2006.

That said, he seems to be doing everything we'd expect a future President to be doing. I don't care who the front runner is 3-1/2 years out. He even raises $$$ for possible future opponents for the nomination.

Not only does he fight the thugs, he has an agenda and ideas.

He may not be perfect but he's bustin' his butt and he's taking the fight to them - not sitting back. He's even running ads in their home districts.

On top of that - and I've said it here before - I want a President who's smarter than I am (freshman grades notwithstanding). It would be a refreshing change.

6. Aw Shucks...
Thanks for the welcome!

I hang around here pretty often, lurk some, and jump into the fray when the mood strikes.

I like Kerry's approach. Instead of only grousing about all the things he opposes and doesn't like, he offers ideas, legislation and discusses what he's for.

On top of that, if I could build a President from scratch, I'd include many of the ingredients he brings to the table.

Thanks again.

5. And tomorrow is another busy day
Well, first and foremost it's the Day of John Conyers' (Blessed be his name) hearing on the DSM. (Hallelujah!)

Sen. Kerry has a good hearing on Identity Theft. (Not sexy like the DSM, I agree, but still really interesting.) The last time that Commerce looked into Identity Theft and the companies that make it easy to do, he brought up the idea that ChoicePoint (Remember them and the felons list of non-voters in FL in 2000) and sked if all the very personal info they collect could be bought by political campaigns or consultants. Threw the hearing into a bit of a tizzy. I wonder why?
