Vote on Kerry Climate Change Amendment today
Head's up from JK's office that the Senate will be voting on the Kerry amendment today. The amendment has bipartisan support, and it looks pretty good to pass (cross fingers!).

Time to be announced, if I get info more I'll post it!

1. What amendment?
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 11:57 AM by Mass
Is it the McCain-Lieberman amendment? (hopefully not if they did not take the nuclear energy money out).

2. Kerry/Jeffords I believe
Although tabled in committee I believe they are offering it to the the floor. Vote is expected this afternoon. No further word yet.

I'm not happy about the nuke money either. Don't want to see that go through. I watched the Seabrook Nuke get built.

3. Apparently it is not going to pass
but I guess Kerry will have to vote for McCain Lieberman as it is also the only meaningful climate change legislation offered.

4. Kerry amendment covers climate change
Word from a Kerry spokesperson is “the Kerry amendment has bipartisan support” and “says the United States needs to address climate change with fair and binding international commitments -- in short, exactly opposite of the Bush administration's approach.”

“It would be a sharp rebuke to the administration's not only failure to lead, but failure to address a very real problem that threatens the global environment and America's economic and national security.”

7. Kerry is speaking now on C-Span on the amendment.
It's such a pleasure to see him speak again! I've never gotten tired of listening to him.

6. Kerry criticized Bush - Now Craig is in arms against Kerry
According to him, Bush is the best president when it comes to global climate.

8. Not a whole lot of good feeling
between the two of them.

Craig is just awful. Everything he said was a lie.

11. That was interesting

John Kerry: Global Warming is a problem. Every reputable scientist says so. We need to go on record and say so too. This is not Kyoto because Kyoto didn't reach out for enough International support and was a deeply flawed treaty. G8 scientists are in agreement, the science is real and the problem is real.

Larry Craig: Ahm, we sent a sentence ripped out of context as a 'gotcha' experiment to the head of the NSF. He agreed that it meant the opposite of what he thought he had agreed to. We didn't show him the rest of the paragraph we ripped the sentence out of. Either he's an idiot for not recognizing every scientific sentence ever written, in and out of context, or we are right and Senator Kerry is just another Big Blue Meanie trying to get real 'muricans to agree with them foreigners about stuff that is, ahm, foreign.

John Kerry: Go to the web site of the National Science Foundation and read what they said for yourself. Global warming is real and no weirdo Repub tricks and gotcha's can change that.

Larry Craig: But, it's Kyoto, cuz every time I see the word Convention, I think Kyoto.

John Kerry: (deleted cuz he would never actually use this kind language on the floor of the Senate.) I can actually read and I know what the NSF head meant.

15. Damn Base closing commission
Dorgan would have voted aye.

What kind of a legislative assembly ignores the facts of global warming in favor of the lalala fantasy-world vision that everything is allright and all that melting of glaciers and permafrost is just imaginary. Bunch of head-up-their-asses morans.

Nice try, Senator. But you were up against rank stupidity and they won this round.

16. Remember that line from "Jaws"
(Spoken by Richard Dreyfuss' character) "You're not gonna believe there's a shark out there until it comes up and bites you in the ass!" That's what the folks who voted no on this amendment remind me of.

17. Honestly, Why don't the Rethugs just admit
that they have been bought and paid for by the oil and energy companies. It would be a lot easier. Sen. Craig R-ExxonMobil. Sen Domenici R-Texaco, Sen Inhofe R-Insane Asylum.

AND what does Lamar Alexander have against Wind Energy? What the hell is up with that? He thinks they are ugly, so nobody gets to have them? What is wrong with this man? No only is he the single most boring speaker in Congress, but he is off his jump.

Tennessee folks -- Explain Lamar and his windfarm phobia to me? (Come on, I'll talk about my Senator if you talk about yours.) What the hell is wrong with that man?

Landrieu is really pissing me off lately, seems like ever since that compromise over the judges she has been a pure Repug. Now I know we need bipartisanship, but damn.

I notice that little group chumming up on important votes like they are in control of everything when it comes to important votes. I don't like what I see.
