This is a fun scene to imagine...

Kerry gets a Celtic greeting

No one can accuse Celtic Tony Allen of being scared to walk the corridors of power. On a trip to Washington, D.C., with students from the Harbor School in Dorchester as part of the Southwest Airlines ASSISTS contest, Allen got a tour from Senator Ted Kennedy. During their walkabout in the Capitol Building, Allen & Co. came upon Senator John Kerry, who extended his hand to the Celtics rookie. Allen gave Kerry a greeting fit for a ballplayer: a chest bump and a ''What up, baby?"

1. James Taylor interview
Boston Globe:

Q: You were very visible in support of John Kerry's campaign. Have you recovered from that?

A: The reason people were so motivated to change things was because we knew how terrible it would feel to get another four years of this. And I've got to say it's tough to live with.

2. I hope this fits this thread well enough...
The connection is famous people. I just found out that Billy Graham is a life-long Democrat, so he probably voted for Kerry, too. But to his credit he doesn't get involved in politics, unlike some other "religious leaders" I could mention.

3. That is amazing.
Wow. I never would have guessed. I came across another article in this vein this morning on the American Propect website called Leftward Christian Soldiers. I like this trend. Christians who follow the teachings of Christ. Sounds very promising.

The Christian left hates being lumped in with the Christian right and it's extremist positions--good for them for speaking out! I hope it will debunk the notion that all Christians are Repubs. I would venture to say that there are more Christians on the left than on the far right, and they need to stand up and be counted now.

I was surprised about Billy Graham too, but thinking back (and I've attended two of his crusades in the past) he was always wanting to draw everyone in, no matter who they were, and pointing them to Christ rather than dictating an agenda of his own--so it makes sense. He wanted to have that big tent, too.

edit: also wanted to add that I first heard about this on the NBC Nightly news when they had a feature on him last night. So it's made the media! :)

11. Great Article.
I think it's only a matter of time before the "Christian Left" begins to raise its voice again. They've accomplished many wonderful things in the history of our nation including helping to end slavery and being a powerful force in the Civil Rights movement. I'm sure it pains them to see that their religion has been hijacked in the name of war, greed and bigotry. Glad they are beginning to speak out!

10. You shouldn't be
This movement has been growing for quite some time. This is Rev. Jim Wallis' website: http://www.sojo.net/ Soujourners is a preogressive Christian movement that has been on the net for awhile. If you get a chance, read his book: God's Politics, Why the Right Gets it Wrong and the LEft Doesn't Get it.

Wallis was there in 2002 trying to tell * that he had no Christian justification to go to war. Wallis' congregation is in inner city DC and he has been around for awhile. Read his book, it's very interesting. (Even to agnostics like me.)
