My Dick Cheney Tin Foil Hat Theory |
|
Ok, maybe the guy is really having heart problems and is in the hospital. (I sincerely wish him well (I think) if he is.) I've had the theory for a long time however that the Repukes have a plan. My theory is that now that Shurb has been installed for a second term, Cheney will become "ill" and will have to "resign" for health reasons. (Of course this doesn't mean he can't still run the White House from behind some curtain.) They will then replace him with someone palatable to the Repukes - someone who is potentially electable in '08. You know, a puppet. I don't know who that someone would be, John McCain comes to mind only because I honestly think he's sold his soul to the Devil. Anyone else think this could be their plan?
You know I honestly don't think I ever had a Tin Foil Hat Theory about anything in life until four years ago, now I need to buy stock in Reynolds Wrap! Damn Neo-Cons!

1. Did you hear the excuse about "the last throes" |
|
Rummy said that what Cheney meant by last throes is that it could mean a violent last throes. If you look up last throes in the dictionary or whatever, it could mean violent last throes. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Cheney has to know when he says "last throes" what that is going to mean to most of the American people. Most of the American people take that as meaning the insurgents are almost defeated and our mission is almost done which could not be farther from the truth.

Okay, I know there are a lot of sore feelings on this forum because of the McCain/Kerry riff, but this is the same McCain who killed the nuclear option in the Senate, who said detainees in Gitmo Bay deserve due process, whose amendment with Lieberman was going to legislate a reduction in greenhouse gases, who has criticized how the Iraq War has been waged. I say he didn't sell his ENTIRE soul much to the Devil's chagrin. He sold the part that honors friendships but not the part that just robotically repeats White House talking points. If he is annointed by the powers that be as the de facto Republican candidate of '08, I will eat all of your tin foil hats, and declare that black is white and white is black!

4. I didn't mean I thought it would be McCain. |

I was assenting to the idea of an heir apparent; I have no idea who it would be.
I am normally pretty moderate, but have come to loathe McCain, and can't give him a fraction of the credit you give him. But I don't think his ideology squares with that of the lunatic right.

I also didn't necessarily mean that I think that John McCain would be their go-to replacement for Cheney were he to resign for "health reasons". I could have easily said George Allen or anyone else who is already a potential GOP candidate for '08. (I don't think it would be Frist though at this point.) My TFH Theory really only extends to my believing that Cheney will be replaced at some point so that they will have a Presidential candidate who is a sitting Vice-President therefore taking advantage of all of the perks associated with that position, including, massive media coverage (of the changing of the guard and the novelty of the situation), name recognition and a ready made bully pulpit.
Sorry I didn't clarify my thinking in my earlier post. See, I told you my tinfoil is wrapped too tight!

6. Sorry -- maybe too much Repub '08 Speculation on my part |
|
I didn't mean to go off on a rant, and in fact, your idea about replacing Dick Cheney is definitely a possibility. However, the other possibility is that if Iraq continues to go badly, and *'s approval ratings stay in the tanker, there may emerge a Republican who will declare himself an "outsider" and distance himself from the WH. By the way, I don't discount McCain winning the primaries if two other candidates split the religious right vote, but it's still a longshot. Yes, McCain has hardly been honorable, and some of the stuff he says annoys the hell out of me, but I have to at least partially support pols who are right on issues I care about like the environment, human rights, pork barrel spending, or certain aspects of the Iraq war. I can't allow my personal feelings of outrage for the way he treated Kerry to affect the cold hearted issues of our day. When McCain does something right, I'm going to give him credit for it. However, I don't see myself ever voting for him.
