so Kerry is talking to McCain again |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 04:29 PM by JI7
just saw them on the Senate floor. and he did the back slap thing thing which shows they must be on friendly terms.
i just hope Kerry doesn't start depending on him as a friend too much as McCain is probably waiting to attack him in order to get support from Republican primary voters again.

1. I wonder if they were ever really mad |
|
at one another. I recall Kerry trying to avoid McCain on the Senate floor but I wonder if we all were reading to much into that. I have to admit, I am nosy and would like to know the real story behind all that.

2. Kerry was angry at him for sure |
|
it wasn't just the Senate floor but McCain's crying to the media that Kerry was ignoring him.
McCain said a bunch of crap against Kerry including AFTER the election.

3. I agree with that, I think their was anger |
|
but I also saw Kerry cross the well of the Senate to talk to McCain and he was mildly friendly toward McCain.
Who knows what it means. Maybe Teddy K spoke to Kerry and told him that McCain was willing to co-sponser some stuff and that they needed to get past it. (It could have happened.)

5. i always thought Kerry would continue working with McCain if it meant |
|
it would help get through his issues. i don't think Kerry would allow any personal feelings to get in the way of working with someone to do something for the people.
this is also why he worked with Santorum on that religious freedom bill. it's not because he viewed Santorum as a good man or anything but because it was a way to help get support for the bill.

4. I think Kerry learned quite a bit from the 2004 election |
|
Including who is trustworthy, and who isn't. I don't think he'll be dependent on McCain for anything.

6. Just a theory, but I don't think Kerry holds grudges that long |
|
He needed time to get over it (McCain's betrayal), and now he has. No, the friendship may never be the same, but didn't he even forgive Nixon who put him on his enemies list? In fact, I bet you that if one of those Swifties (maybe not a prominent one, but just one who signed on) appeared with a fig leaf, Kerry could forgive some of them, too. In time. Okay, a lot of time. But my point is that if you don't forgive people, and instead hold it inside, it will only wreck YOU, not the person you harbor deep resentments towards. Best to release all the bitterness and move on. This is a very good sign that JK is doing very well. I admire his grace.

7. There was a CNN documentary |
|
that I taped in part that showed Kerry and Nixon shaking hands, all smiles. Kerry very gratiously said that Nixon was brilliant on the subject of foreign policy and that they'd had a nice long talk.
I was very proud of our John for that.
If Nixon could get over it, I wonder why it seems that Pat Buchannan still seems like he still holds a grudge against Kerry, considering his reaction to the Smear vets and all. But then I think Pat is still part Repub.

8. he is a Conservative and never stopped being one |
|
being against the Iraq war did not make him a liberal. he was still the same on all the issues. even on the middle east foreign policy issue he has been consistent. on issues like gay rights, abortion, religion, business, taxes etc he is as conservative as he has always been.
he is very anti communist which is why he has a problem with Kerry protesting the Vietnam war.
and of course he voted for Bush because of the abortion issue.

9. I know, I know, he want Conservative Supreme Court folks |
|
How could he spend so much time railing against the war, and still vote for Bush. He sounded like a Naderite when he talked about it. He had decided, as the lefty freepers had as well, that there was "a dime's worth of difference" between Bush and Kerry. The war wasn't going to be much different under Kerry, and so it was a-okay to vote for Bush on the social issues.
Which makes him just as blind as I find the lefty freepers to be, even if he does say things that appeal to the left re: the war.
