Former US presidential candidate hails decision to scrub Discovery launch
Agence France-Presse English Wire via NewsEdge Corporation :
CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida July 13 (AFP) - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry Wednesday hailed the decision to postpone Discovery's launch, saying it showed NASA's capability to detect problems with the space shuttle.
"You should look at today not as a disappointment but as a system that has worked," Kerry told journalists at the Kennedy Space Center shortly after NASA's 11th-hour decision to call of the launch.
"The check system is working and the process found something that needed to be addressed. The astronauts are safe, the shuttle is on the ground, and they will address it," the Massachussetts senator said.
Mission managers canceled Wednesday's planned launch because of a problem with Discovery's fuel system.
Kerry said NASA officials had told him "the likelihood of a launch tomorrow is very, very low; it's probaly non-existent."

He gave a really nice interview with Chris Jansing on MSNBC. Talked up the space program a bit, said he had made a commitment to come back for the launch, so there he was. Mentioned the tour last year and I couldn't help but get a sense of "and you people decided to turn science into something goofy", but that was probably just me. She also asked him about Rove and he said he didn't want to divert attention from the shuttle with political talk, very classy.
And, once again, how in the world did we not elect that guy.
