1. Keep an eye on Steve Clemons
website, The Washington Note for Bolton news.

He had several posts up today, best one here: http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/000792.html

Hagel says he thinks Bush will recess appoint him over the August congressional break. But no one really knows.

2. Bolton is in the thick of
the Rove/Wilson affair. He's going down soon after Karl. Even bush* isn't stupid enough to appoint him in Aug.

3. They just mentioned him on Hardball.
They were listing administration figures who had testified in front of the grand jury, and there was Bolton, big as life.

5. It startled me.
I don't think I knew that, either, but there's so much info flying around I thought I might have just missed it.

6. The Politics of Truth
from page 302
Joe Wilson
"By December 19, the State Department had published a fact sheet with it's version of Iraq's inconsistencies listed. I did not see the fact sheet at the time, but I learned later that the first iteration contained a reference to Iraqi attempts to buy uranium from Niger. The reference was apparently scrubbed soon after, and the Niger charge was removed-at least for a time. News reports after the fact suggested that the neoconservative mole in the State Department, John Bolton, the under secretary for Arms Control, had slipped the reference into the first version, but someone at State had caught the mistake and deleted it."

Dude's going down.

8. So Bolton is responsible for the 16 words?
Is that what this is saying? WTF?

9. When you think about it,
it totally makes sense that he could be the one responsible. It's all slowly coalescing into one big picture.

You know what I keep thinking about?? The image of Cheney visiting and visiting and visiting those beleaguered CIA analysts...

10. Remember how upset Voinovich appeared
on the floor when he spoke about his kids, etc., and against Bolton?

What did Voinovich know?

We pull out this Rove thread and everything begins to come unraveled! Couldn't happen to a nicer band of thieves.

11. Oh man, you're right!
It's got to be either the 16 words, or that he leaked Plame herself and OMG, caused the death of a CIA agent?? Or all of it. No wonder he was crying.

12. Exactly.
Why was Voinovich crying?
Not because Bolton is a meanie who treats employees badly.
He knows. Soon, we will all know.

13. Didn't Voinovich
make some comment in the committee hearing about something he knew and couldn't talk about??? I only have the vaguest recollection, but maybe someone else remembers. Or maybe TayTay can work her research magic and pull the quote out of a hat tomorrow.

Or maybe I remember it incorrectly??? Anyone else remember that?

14. This?
Voinovich:
"There are several interesting theories on how Mr. Bolton got the nomination. I am not going to go into them in the Senate. If anyone would like to talk to me about that, I am happy to discuss it with them; otherwise, I urge you to get in touch with senior members of the Foreign Relations Committee and ask them."

18. I remember him on the floor before one of the votes, saying
that he knew things he couldn't repeat out loud, but if anyone wanted to come and see him he would tell them. At least that is the way I remember it happening.

JOHN BOLTON TESTIFIED BEFORE GRAND JURY IN VALERIE PLAME INVESTIGATION

David Schuster of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews made a whopper revelation about grand jury testimony in the Valerie Plame-outing investigation: John Bolton has testified about the top secret document that Colin Powell had aboard Air Force One...

20. This is what I find interesting
Today's NYT article also says that Bolton did not disclose this testimony to the SFRC. It is possible it occurred after his form was filed, but still . . . .

http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/000797.html

Bolton was required to disclose any involvement in any investigation prior to hearings on his nomination. The timing of his testimony is critical. Did he testify before his disclosure to the SFRC?
