Kerry to Ride in Pan-Massachusetts Challenge This Weekend
Mettle to the pedal: Senator John Kerry, his brother Cameron Kerry, and Joe Kennedy, president of Citizens Energy Corp., will join Pan-Massachusetts Challenge founder Billy Starr in this weekend’s two-day bike ride event to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is a 189 bicycle ride through Massachusetts to raise money for the Dana-Farber cancer Institute.

11. Sorry, I missed the parallel construction
and wanted to further knock Bush - Wouldn't it be funny if Bush goes on his mountain bike this week-end and falls as usual ending with bruises and bumps. If the press liked Kerry, it would be interesting to see side by side, Kerry rides 180 mile race, Kerry grinning on bike - Bush falls off bike. (But if the press liked Kerry, it would be cool if President Kerry had the time to participate in the race. It would certainly draw attention to the charity.)

Again sorry about the comment -

2. Oh, what I wouldn't give to see this man in bike shorts!
That would make my day. I think it's great that he's doing this.

6. Hasn't he been doing charity rides for YEARS?
The press always treated his riding as if it was just a photo-op, not really his sport, when actually he has ridden competitively and in charity rides with NO fanfare for many years.

8. Until I read a Sports Illustrated story - written in Dec 2004 -
I didn't realize he was so strong a cyclist - before the elction, I had read only about the ride he finished in hail from Boston to Cape Cod.

I was still surprised reading the blog to which KG provided a link to see how good he is. A 59 year old finishing 32 nd months after cancer surjury and treatment. (Not to mention he obviously didn't fall on his face like Bush does routinely even though he rode 110 miles in 6 1/2 hours.)

From the blog:
In August 2003, just months after undergoing surgery and treatment for prostate cancer, Kerry finished the 110-mile Pan-Massachusetts Challenge in 6 1/2 hours. He came in at 32nd place in the field of 3,700 riders.

You are right - the press which praised Bush's running, biking, and brush clearing while dismissing Kerry's more serious athletics. Could you imagine the Klutz in chief windsurfing?

13. I love your hyperactive junior senator too!
:loveya: Averaging 17 mph for 110 miles on this ride as the link said he did when he rode it in '03 ain't too shabby! I think I'm doing good when I average 14.5 (and that's on a good day, and not for 110 miles). He is certainly quite the athlete.
