Letter from JK re Katrina
Dear XXXXXXXXX,

This is a time for all Americans to pull together and do everything we can to assist people whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

If you haven't acted already, I urge you to join in delivering immediate help to the people who need it most. One way to do that is to support the relief and recovery efforts of the Red Cross with a personal donation.

Donate to the Red Cross

As we hold those who are going through so much pain and suffering in our prayers, I know you'll do everything you can to reach out and help.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

P.S. There are a host of other volunteer relief agencies doing essential life-saving work in this emergency. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is coordinating the federal government's response efforts, has posted a list of recommended groups on its website.

and does not try to make a political case out of it.

I was also surprised of how few democrats reacted at this point. I have seen things from Dean, Reid, and Kerry (apart from local Democrats, of course). .

4. That's called leadership in a time of national crisis

It's the ability to focus a nervous and frightened people on a goal that actually does some good. Real leaders understand that IT'S NOT ABOUT THEM, it's about us, the much described but little listened to 'We the People.' A real leader doesn't wait till after the fund-raiser is over to start paying attention to suffering human beings who are undergoing enormous pain and deprivation. You cancel whatever you are doing and you rush to help them. Cuz that's your friggin job.

I am very proud of my Jr. Senator. He is muchly, greatly and deeply esteemed. Cuz he is a real leader who learned the lesson long ago of making sure that you never abandon anyone and you try and bring people back alive and in one piece. Life is a very precious thing and it takes every effort to preserve and protect it. Real leaders instinctively know that. Fake, self-involved morans with no souls and no consciences apparently don't.
