Trent Lott speaking now
In the first minute he mentioned JK and Teresa and their offer of help.

No love lost here for Trent - but that was gracious.

1. The best part:
it will be in the Congressional Record.

Documentary evidence for the naysayers.

3. He said they called him
and asked what was needed. He asked for supplies, I believe, and told them if they could land a plane filled with supplies he'd take care of distribution.

He said that many of his colleagues had called and offered support etc - but Kerry was the only one he mentioned by name.

4. he needs to get perspective on the depth of the effects for New Orleans
i don't think he really understands it or doesn't want to.

in an individual sense everyone who was hurt is equally a victim.

but for those living in New Orleans the damage goes much further than even having lost your home. it's dangerous even for people to just go there now. and to make it worse the alternative to staying in NO because of the failure in response has actually been worse for some.

i do appreciate his mentioning JK and the poor nations that helped.

5. We have to be careful - people in MS were in terrible situation also
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 02:40 PM by Mass
particularly in rural MS. There were plenty of people who still had no relief (food or clean water) on Saturday. Simply, the media were not there to show. In addition, it seems that the violence was largely exaggerated as a way to make it people in NO responsible, even if the situation in the superdrome and the convention center were clearly by far the worse, if anything because of the accumulation of people.

This said, Lott is an idiot.

7. is it possible Lott doesn't even know about it either ?
even if it is his own state. it's true about the media not reporting it. to show the problems in Mississippi would mean to admit it's not jaust a matter of "if we only had a mayor like Giuliani" .

while i disagree with Lott about so many things i know on some issues, especially those involving a personal connection he can be pretty good. such as when he brings up his mother and issues like social security.

this is kind of weird and it's probably not even saying much but i have more faith in Lott to do the right thing than Haley Barbour. i don't trust Barbour at all.

8. I HEARD that!
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 03:10 PM by whometense
I was wondering if that was what he meant to imply.

Hear him trying to cast around for something positive to say about Bush?? Boy, what he came up with was pret-ty lame. "He stood with us." Did he actually say, "He sweated with us"??? If he did, it was because it was hot down there - it sure wasn't because he was doing any heavy lifting.

9. I doubt that is what
he meant to imply. But when he said it, that is the first thought that came into my mind.

Don't you know its hard work, pretending to lead the country when your 4 days late.

RAW STORY

From Action 4 News At 11 PM / WTAE-TV CH 4 (ABC) Pittsburgh / TRANSCRIPT

00:05:40 Senator Rick Santorum is criticizing the government's emergency response to hurricane victims hurricane Katrina victims. But he's also criticizing the ones who chose to ride out the storm. I mean, you have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving. Coming up, hurricane relief in Mississippi. The lights are finally coming on in some of the hardest-hit areas. Our coverage continues in about ten minutes. 00:06:12

14. I think sometimes that if Santorum didn't exist,
we would have to create him. He adds just the right note of idiocy to any conversation. I feel so bad for the good people of PA that they have to put up with this doofus. I am pulling for Santorum to get his ass whomped next year so the fine PAers can be free of him.

As for that cloning idea, hmmm, I like that. Then there is enough to go around for the whole LLL brigade. (LOL!) If only he would come home to Boston, make a speech, shake some hands, flake off some cells and then we could take them to the secret lab at MIT and viola But he don't come here anymore. Ain't seen him for weeks. (Okay, I'm crabby about that. I'm sorry. It's like he's busy or something. Damn.)

15. My aching head
Did you guys see the story about the people who were afraid to accept a rescue because they thought they would be charged? Now this idiot wants to add the fear of a criminal penalty??? Just no words.

11. It was really nice that he mentioned it
and it's nice that JK and Teresa are working on this quietly themselves. I wonder why he signaled them out - it is nice though.
