Help! I need a John Kerry bumper sticker ASAP!
After this Katrina tragedy, I am ready to put my car in the line of fire!! I live deep in Bush country, and have always been too wimpy to put politics front and center, but the fact that that dipshit let his OWN people die needlessly IN AMERICA means, that as president, he is dead to me. Kerry is MY president, and I am ready for any snide remarks people may say to me.

Back to the bumper sticker, I really want the one from 2004 that says, simply, John Kerry. I have been unable to find it on ebay (they only have Kerry/Edwards), so I was thinking you wonderfully resourceful JK pals may have the info to where I can get one.

Thanks so much!!

2. I was just thinking last weekend
that it's time to replace my beloved (and winter-tattered) John Kerry for President bumper sticker.

You can get them here: http://www.demstore.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/scstore/Kerry/bumpersticker.html?E+scstore

I'm not sure the ones with no year are still available anywhere - but I'd prefer that one too. I may still actually have a few somewhere in the house. If I find them I'll give you one.

the Kerry/Edwards A Stronger America. PM if you would like one, I can have it in the mail this afternoon and since you are at the beach you would probably have it tomorrow. I have one of those on my car and a Veteran for Kerry and proudly drive around our lovely Bush country here at the beach.

I see that whometense already provided the link.

I proudly have my John Kerry sticker on my car, deep in my red county (ok the state is light blue). I am not afraid of negative feedback, but I really would be if I were to put anything on my car that were directly anti-*.

What I would like to add to my car is a sticker with some sort of positive statement about Democrats, like "Democrats Care"--need to remind people that we are the party with a heart.

7. Agree on anti-* bumper stickers
Although I hate seeing B/C bumper stickers, what really made my blood boil was seeing a car that said "Not Fonda Kerry", trying to equate Jane Fonda's stupid anti-war stunt in N. Vietnam to Kerry's much more reasonable anti-war protest. I was shaking my fist at that vehicle, although the owner probably would be too scary for me to say something to. So considering the considerable amount of unbalanced * supporters out there, it would only be at my (and my car's) peril to go that far. I did have a friend with an old fashioned sign on his van that said "Impeach Bush & Co." I asked him if he had any trouble, and he said he didn't. I see a lot of Kerry stickers in front of my church (so much for the Religious Right) and their cars still look intact. It is true that the more cars you see with Kerry bumper stickers, the more emboldened the populace will get to join in.

Whomtense -- thanks for the link, although I'm following the senator's lead, and don't feel comfortable putting an '08 Kerry bumper sticker on my car until he were to officially announce such a bid. I would say he's moving in that direction, but it's not a done deal until he says it is. I also want to unite Democrats who indeed were united about '04, but aren't necessarily so for '08.

8. I understand.
I feel two ways about it. I like the 2008 sticker because it's looking ahead, rather than looking sore loserish.

On the other hand, I agree about not wanting to jump the gun.

One of the reasons I happily keep my sticker on is that a local columnist for the Boston Herald who HATES Kerry wrote a column a few months back whining about all the Kerry bumper stickers he was still seeing around town. So I keep it on because I love Kerry, but also to say "f*** you" to Howie Carr.

24. Case in point.
In case you thought we were exaggerating about Howie, here's a bit of his column from yesterday's paper. The Herald requires a paid subscription in order to read their brilliant columnists, and they're not getting any money out of me!

Kerry, Kennedy open homes to victims . . . not!
By Howie Carr
Wednesday, September 7, 2005

So how many victims of Katrina will our two great liberal senators be taking in to their $18 million worth of seaside mansions they didn't even pay for?

I mean, we all know how much Ted Kennedy and John Kerry care. They can't stand mean-spirited Republicans who won't do their...

I wonder how many people Howie's taking into his not-so-humble home? He just loves pointing that finger...

25. What does he mean by they didn't pay for?
In Kerry's case, I guess it's Teresa's house - so technically he doesn't have one. Kennedy did buy his - cause the Hyannis museum said he bought his house from Caroline.

26. I don't really know what he meant.
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 04:06 PM by whometense
He normally slings whatever crap he has nearby, fact-based or not - kind of like a pissed-off chimpanzee. I assume he meant to refer to the fact that Teresa's money is inherited Heinz money and that Kennedy's money is inherited Kennedy money. BUt that's just a guess.

And what difference it makes, I have NO idea...

9. You were reading my mind Beachmom!
I removed mine last January after the vote was finalized in the Senate because I was just so depressed. I've regretted it ever since, and just this week I've decided to dig out and extra Kerry/Edwards sticker and put it on my car! (First I have to wash my car though because quite it's filthy and quite frankly, we need the rain.)

I do have a couple of the Kerry '08 stickers, but I don't want to put one of those on my car just yet - don't want to tempt fate. Today I got behind a PA car with a Kerry/Edwards sicker on it and it made my day.

14. I lost my Kerry stickers when I bought a new car earlier this year
I had two stickers on my old car. One was for only Kerry, the other was a Kerry/Edwards sticker. On my new car, I have a "Celebrate Diversity" sticker, and one that says "IF YOU ARE NOT OUTRAGED, YOU AREN'T PAYING ATTENTION". I think the latter one pretty much communicates how I'm feeling these days.

Kerry for President
http://www.cafepress.com/shop/kerry/browse/store/afterthoughts/72044

Who stands for Kerry? (Veterans for Kerry, Mothers for Kerry...)
http://www.cafepress.com/irregulargoods/304747

The one you probably want except on a white background:
http://www.cafepress.com/irregulargoods.7287912

One I particularly like:
Kerry Edwards
Courage. Honor. Vision.

Many choices, most with 2008 (not all) - scroll down:

Although I still didn't find the common, dark blue pre-Edwards one that you probably really want.

12. Wash Post article on bumper stickers
This article made my blood boil!!! The MSM just don't get it!!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/27/AR2005082701306_pf.html

The argument continues, circling the Beltway like a tourist who missed his exit in 2004. It's aggressive, it's sound-bitey, it's yesterday's politics. It's about tribes whose only common ground apparently is the road. It's about disagreeing to disagree. It's about the individual voice being heard, and another individual voice saying, "You're wrong. Still."

What does it mean that we continue to play this game? "It's a useless thing to do, but it's a condition of our times," says Marshall Blonsky, a professor of semiotics at New York's Parsons School of Design. Blonsky has been interpreting signs for a living for more than 30 years.

"It's a brand name," he says, "just as pathetic as wearing your Gap label on the outside." But it's understandable, he adds, in a dehumanized world: "We are individuals, and we are not individuals." Personal identity is growing increasingly weak, Blonsky argues, and a political label "turbocharges" a weak identity -- as with any team membership (and endless rivalries). With our stickers still up, our war paint is still on -- and, truth be told, the war's not over because the war's not over. "John Kerry" on your car might make a stronger statement against the war than the man himself ever made.

EXCUSE ME, but John Kerry is not akin to a football team or f**king Gap to me!!!! People are DEAD because that awful man is president. This Katrina screw up highlights that his pure laziness and ineptitude led to countless deaths both in Iraq and on 9/11. My putting a bumper sticker on my car says (1) There is hope that there actually are people qualified for the job as president and (2) Because people made the WRONG CHOICE, people are DEAD, but guess what -- I wasn't one of them. And I STAND BY my choice.

Motherf***ing MSM. Clueless, as usual!!!!

15. I agree with you
Parsons, though an Art school, is part of the New School, which used to be The New School for Social Research. In the non-art part of the school, the students ao far to the left, that Bob Kerrey (who is President) said something like although he was seen as a liberal in Nebraska, the students see him as a RW nutcase.) this might explain the gratuitous slam about "a stronger statement against the war than the man himself ever made." (Seriously - Why would his name do that?)

I think those who didn't like Kerry took the stickers off pretty quickly. I have a feeling that a large number of DUers may have removed them on 11/3. Equating the Kerry sticker to anti-war is stupid - There were anti-war stickers available last year. Although I trusted Kerry would work to clean up Bush's mess and get out, I never interepted a Kerry sticker as anti-war. (A stronger case could be made for Team = Democrat.)

17. I am personally still stuck
in a lot of ways in last year's campaign.

This morning on my way to work I picked up the new Boston Phoenix and saw in this issue was their annual article about the 10 most important and least covered news stories of the past year. I felt this overwhelming wave of nostalgia, and it took me a minute to figure out why. Then I remembered - I read last year's article on the T while on my way to Kerry headquarters to volunteer.

I still think Kerry won. But mostly I miss the hope I had last fall. It's really tough to think we have 3 more years of this to suffer through. And that's why people have their Kerry bumper stickers on - it's a statement of defiance. It says Kerry is MY president.

I mostly see the remaining Bush stickers as a "bite me" gesture as well, but obviously a different kind of "bite me". There are very very few of them seem around here, but I see Kerry and Kerry-Edwards stickers all over.

and I do feel an affinity with other people with the stickers - an elite club. Seeing the stickers is still somewhat bitter-sweet. A reminder of what could have been.

Who cares how right you are or if you were the first one to be right. How silly.

(That said, I have the window sign and the bumper sticker and the button for the early Kerry support. I put the K/E sticker on my car and kept the early ones. I know folks in town who might have some NH stuff left over, I can check.)

21. TONS of B/C or W stickers here
They're everywhere, but for crying out loud, aren't they embarrassed now, now that their man has failed them? Anybody know what his approval rating is? I guess I am curious to see if there will be any erosion of his base. If his base goes, or at least some of them, then he is up a creek. In Germany, it would be grounds to call a new election due to a no confidence vote. Sigh . . . Can't we have a no confidence election this year? Even if you could only vote for another Republican, it would be SUCH a relief. It goes beyond ideology or partisanship for me. I simply do not think * is qualified for the job. How about he and Cheney resign, and Hastert comes in? I realize he hasn't been a very good speaker, but maybe if he were president he would do better than *. As you can see, I am DESPERATE!!!!

23. Different war
I think the article isn't talking about the Iraq war, it is talking about the campaign "war":

With our stickers still up, our war paint is still on -- and, truth be told, the war's not over because the war's not over. "John Kerry" on your car might make a stronger statement against the war than the man himself ever made.

Although I have no clue what was meant by the last sentence in that excerpt - the most rational thing I can come up with it is that the writer was trying to be very snide about Kerry, but the statement makes no sense to me, when considered in context with the previous sentence.

Whatever. I'll keep my war paint on, thank you, 'cause this war's definitely not over.
