I am (cautiously) sensing a seachange, my friends.
I have been here about 4 years, and I am just now feeling that we are getting through.

It couldn't have happened without your diligence in these post-election months.

Those of you who have been here a long time know I never take any positive swing seriously as it tends to be temporary for this crowd.

But now....something's changing. The facts are finally sinking in.

Anyone else getting that vibe?

1. I definitely am.
A lot of Kerry supporters seem to be emboldened to speak out. The lefty freepers seem to have nearly run out of wind - and ammo. Everything they bring up against him is tired and/or discredited.

I also think Katrina may have been a bucket of cold water in the face for those who keep whining about Kerry - he's looking a lot better even to them these days.

I think that Boondocks cartoon yesterday said it all.

2. Part may be that he is just very easy to defend
Think of what he's done in the last 2 weeks. (Which I won't list because Globalvillage already did an incredible job of doing just that) There is no one working on so many fronts at the same time and being so completely on-target.

3. Kerry's been a pretty prominent Dem lately
Yeah I sense a more positive note around DU--we touched on this the other day, too. Either the freeps have had the wind taken out of their sails because of *, and have given up infusing DU with daily doses of arsenic, or the Kerrycrats are winning the war, using plain facts, against the lefty freeps, or it's been long enough after the election that more have worked through their grief and anger and have decided to redirect it to * where it belongs--or a combination.

I hope it's permanent!

6. History of the Democratic Party (Condensed.)
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 08:11 PM by TayTay
In the beginning, Gawd created the heavens and the earth and all that other stuff and then got bored and decided to create Democrats. At first there were only two, and it was good. And they got along real well until:

"Wow, we both agree that we should run the garden in peace and harmony and take care of the animals and see to the plants and not spoil our living space and share and divide the harvest and encourage each other all we can. This is paradise. Apple?"
"Is that MacIntosh or a Granny Smith?"
"Granny Smith, why?"
"I hate Granny Smith apples. They are sour and green and gross. They suck. Anyone who likes Granny Smith apples is a tool of the fascist military industrial complex and I can't possibly co-habitate with them."
"Oh yeah, well MacIntosh apples are common and lack imagination and don't taste as good in pies. Purest bastard. I can't co-habitate with you."

And so they separated, unable to agree on what apple to eat at the moment. Sigh! And Gawd saw this and laughed and laughed. And wasn't bored anymore. (Sometimes I question Gawd's motives. Sadist.)

Later on in the Garden, after Gawd saw fit to create snakes and rats and goats and Rethugs the two Democrats passed each other.

"Oh, fascist imperialist lackey of the corporate elite. How ya been."
"Not bad, you ignorant, unrealistic follower of lost causes. How's by you?" And they smirked at each other and kept their distance.

And just then a terrible rampaging mastodon burst out of the trees at the edge of the Garden and ran toward them at full speed. They knew that if they were ever to get out of the path of this horrible animal they would have to work together. So one Democrat picked up a bow and the other supplied the arrows and together they slew the horrible beast by working in harmony. And later on they had steaks on the grill. And although they retained their intense dislike of each other's choice in apples, damn could they hunt together when they had to.

And Gawd laughed and laughed. And wasn't bored any more. (Gawd just might be a Democrat, the jury is still out. But honestly, that trait of inciting trouble just for trouble's sake does sound familiar.)

In other words: There's Rethug blood in the water and it's driving Dems to consider Unity, the action of last resort. We may not like each other, but hot damn do we really despise those other guys.

Though I always have fun writing them. They take just a few minutes and are just too much fun to do. So, I guess it's kind of hoggish of me to take a bow, cuz, they wuz easy pickins and, well, I made myself laugh. (Sigh! Isn't making yourself laugh one of the signs of insanity?)

I am still working on a better explanatory intro for the 'DSM letter' post from yesterday. (That's really intreigues me. Why didn't the text of the letter get posted? The internets leak like a sieve, so how come I couldn't find a reference to that letter from Sen. Roberts that basicially told Kerry to stop asking for DSM hearings. That was weird.)

28. Okay, but the main point is not that I get it
but there was just thousands of posts on DSM. How could this have gone by and no one posted it? The Globe story yesterday was the first mention of it. That is so odd considering the level of interest in that subject. I should have thought it would be leaked and posted on every board that had mentioned DSM.

Just struck me as strange that a rebuttal letter didn't make the internets. Just odd.

18. good point
With the enemy "on the run" so to speak, it's more fun to stand together and enjoy the moment.

Here's another theory:
Hurricane Katrina showed everyone in this country just how much leadership we do NOT have right now. We just have a bunch of screw-ups in charge of the nation. Which creates a vacuum, and even people on DU want to feel like there is a grown-up or two that has some clout in Washington.

In other words, at a time like this, they realize they need the guy.

Look at this thread. I know it's an annoying 2008 thread - but scan the responses , especially 22 - 24. A month ago, Kerry would have been listed in the other group - where he never belonged - and look at who's posting. (I'm sure there will be bashers at some point - but this is different.
