Big John was in my hometown, Morristown, New Jersey, last Sat., exciting the local Dems and ginning up fervor for US Sen. Jon Corzine's gubernatorial campaign against Bush-adoring fatcat Repug Doug Forrester. I'd never seen Kerry in person during the 04 campaign (ours is a hopelessly Republican county, of the country-club variety). So I was startled by his presence: towering over everyone else, badger-silver hair ablaze in the sunshine, tan and fit, and a much more powerful speaking voice than I expected. He was funny and full of drive, and intense about holding the Bush administration to the fire over Katrina, Iraq, and everything else. "I'm getting tired of all these people going round the country telling us what God said to them, " he said. "I recently read the New Testament start to finish, in case I'd missed something - - but I didn't find *anything* about Jesus Christ saying we should give millions to the richest people and take it away from children, the poor, the sick, and the elderly!" (The crowd - about 500 of us - went nuts.)

Yeah, there is that sort of 'this guy isn't who the media said he was' thing going on:

So, the women are getting their crushes back huh! Gee, that should be interesting. And that sentence above sounds like an intro to a ahm, 'love story.'

The towering figure with the badger-silver hair ablaze in the mid-afternoon sunshine, strode over to where Ariandne was spinning away in the corner. "Hello," came the powerful speaking voice, "Mind if I join the group?" Ariadne, momentarily stunned by the sunlight glinting off the badger-silver hair found herself unable to speak and just nodded weakly. She found her index finger in her mouth and the urge to bite down on it, irresistable. Freud be damned.

Sorry, but I do't know what 'badger-silver hair' is, but I know a crush when I read about one. And that is a crush, renewed.

2. Yep.

I love it. Athenae (for those who don't regularly go over to First Draft) had a major Kerry crush leading up to the election. Followed by the heartbreak we are all familiar with.

It's so encouraging to see these things written. Human nature? I know nature abhors a vacuum. Human nature abhors a leadership vacuum. And there's our shadow president, and boy does he ever look good right now.
