WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ --
Republican National Committee (RNC) Press Secretary Tracey Schmitt issued the following statement on Senator
John Kerry's remarks at Brown University this afternoon:

"John Kerry's attacks on
President Bush's efforts to assist the victims and rebuild the Gulf Coast don't come as a surprise - - armchair quarterbacking on tough issues has never been a problem for Senator Kerry. Such tactics haven't served him well in the past and today is no exception. The American people have pulled together during a difficult time and Democrats' efforts to politicize this tragedy are unsavory at best."

1. How sad.
Shut up and get with the program. End of press release.

I agree with Whome's Rude Pundit post: This is a beat down. And one richly deserved.

2. They had NO answer to what he said.
They know Kerry was right, and they most likely know that he won.

The best they could do is come up with "Armchair Quaterbacking"

3. But they would have said the same thing even if Kerry
had only answered a question by replying that he thought the response could have been quicker. They don't even try to defend themselves from the charges, probably hoping the press will only minimally cover it.

As to Kerry's challenging incompetent or wrong minded RW Republicans being a tactic that worked badly for him; as a 4th term Senator, who got his party's nomination for President, who, they at minimum had to lie about and suppress the vote to beat, it seems to me it's worked pretty well for him.

It would seem that this is a speech he gave unusual importance too, judging by Teresa and Vanessa being there. I doubt in victory, Bush had a daughter who would say something like Vanessa's comment to her dad, after he conceded, that she was so proud her last name was Kerry. Some things Rove can't control.
