1. I just saw that
I started to post it here but then thought it was possibly too stupid for words. (Literally.) Yeah right. They chose Kerry and what do you know, the race turned out to be such a cake walk for Shrub*. Why he didn't even need to cheat in the general election everything worked out so well for him. Should the people who posted on that thread really be smokin' the good shit on a Monday night? I would think they would save it for a special occasion.

2. Oh, I would go over there and feed the conspiracy nuts
some food. I told them I was in on the conspiracy, that it was hatched in a secret lab at MIT and it worked nicely.

I mean come on, if you can't have fun with conspiracy nuts, who can you have fun with.

5. OK, I took your advice and had some fun with them
The original poster posted (further down) that "every election rally I went to was filled with people wanting an end to war. That's what was exciting voters."

So I posted this photo and asked if these were the people she was talking about. (I know this photo was taken in July after the nomination, but I just liked it for the visual.)

3. Added my two cents.
There's no excuse for that kind of willful ignorance.

6. They said that at the time
Iowa was rigged, NH was Diebolded. Every time Dean didn't win a state or do as well as they projected, it was because Kerry cheated somehow or other. Just goes on and on.

7. Oh yes, I forgot about Kerry's magical powers
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 09:49 PM by TayTay
He has the ability to affect primary voters and primary voting machines by giving them the evil eye or something.:sarcasm: Gosh, he should have paid for the whole shebang and gone with the magical powers for general elections as well.

Honestly, how dumb can some people be? Kerry won because he had been working to put in place an organization that would secure him resepct and consideration. The Deaniacs are refusing to face reality and the bothersome idea that a real piece of why Howard lost is the Deaniacs themselves, who scared the Iowa caucus voters by being too flighty and too unwilling to dig in and confront Iowa on it's own terms, not as a place to be lectured to. Honestly, when will they learn.

8. It still totally amazes me

that they don't get it.

Even a non-pol type like me, sitting at home, could see that Iowans were probably not going to be thrilled to have their state overrun by scruffy people in those weird orange caps, ringing their doorbells constantly and writing them letters haranguing them about why they should vote for Dean. It may have been the most misconceived piece of political theater ever.

My awareness of the lack of general appeal that campaign had went way back, but really jelled when I read theat NY Times magazine article by Matt Bai about the Dean campaign that made it sound more like a lonelyhearts club than a political movement.

Mind you, this was the campaign, not Dean. The campaign often seemed not to know who Dean actually was. The Deaniacs still don't appear to understand who he is. So how come (she asked rhetorically) no one in that group ever laments the horrible campaign Dean ran? Hmmm?

On edit: for you other old-timers - last year, at least in Boston, the Kerry campaign interns and volunteers often reminded me of the "Clean for Gene" kids in '68.

9. vets and firefighters
I have yet to see a primary analysis that fully grasped the vets, particularly; and the firefighters. And, of course, the "Clean for Gene" kids. Not to mention all us "LLL"s. Have any of the pundits yet recognized that we all sat on the phone for hours, making 'grown-up' phone calls?

I read that article, but there was also a documentary run at some point. Kind of raised my eyebrows, lol. Remember it? And who can forget the JJ dinner, I heard that raised a few eyebrows in Iowa too.

Misconceived piece of political theater all the way around, in my estimation.
