Ahm, okay so there was the OpEd from Sen. Kerry today
in the Lowell Sun. And it was really good. And well-reasoned. He wrote a great OpEd about supporting his bill to get more money put into the coffers to help poor people pay their heating bills this winter. Ahm, I can't link to it and share it with youz guyz cuz it's not on the either Lowell Sun website yet (tomorrow) and not on Sen. Kerry's Senate site. Sigh!

To bad. Kerry's last few speeches have made a nice pattern. He does call the Admin on it's lack of planning and it's total incompetence in every area of government, except filling the pockets of rich friends. Kerry then uses Katrina as a focusing point to let his reader know that this was but one disaster that we could have done something about ahead of time, but that * and his Rethug goons refused and call to action. The speech at Brown began this, the wonderful speech to the Boston Chamber of Commerce continued this. (It's my favorite speech now, I loved this one, it's very well-written and combines just the right amount of accusation and hope, indictment of incompetence and a real path toward a better way of doing things.)

The OpEd in the Lowell Sun does this again. Sen. Kerry writes about the failure to heed the warning signs of Katrina and what that did to the Gulf area and how much suffering has ensued. He pointed out that another effect of Katrina has yet to hit, but it will hit the poor and small businesses very, very hard; the price of home heating fuel. There are warning signs everywhere about this, but the Rethug goons refuse to listen and we are looking down the barrel of another looming catastrophe this winter, unless action is taken.

I love these speeches and OpEds. They are structurally great and the theme is expanded upon and re-used, in context, each time. These are just great to read. I seriously hope that Sen. Kerry publishes an OpEd next week in the Globe and in the Herald that reiterates what he said in the Sun. He needs to really drum up support for this measure. (And step in front of the camera and push it and take some credit for it. It's not a bad thing to take some credit for doing genuine good work. People kind of like that.)

2. Oh, and the Sun dissed him today as well. (Ho hum, it's the Sun.)

Their chief political reporter was smearing a guy who is running for county DA and, right in the middle of a perfectly good rant about this guy, drops in a rant about Kerry. (Said the first guy was trying to take the title 'Live Shot' away from my esteemed Junior Senator. Bastard.) This particular reporter has practically made a career of bad-mouthing Kerry. Guess old habits die hard.

Geez, Louise. This reporter, Paul Sullivan, had a brain tumor last Christmas and underwent surgery. At the time, nobody was sure if he would wake up from surgery or suffer permanent brain damage and never wake up. He got better. During his first week of recovery, he got a phone call expressing best wishes from, yup, John Kerry. Kerry joked with him about the brain surgery and asked if he was still mentally intact and everything. Sullivan replied, "I didn't wake up wanting to vote for you, so I guess I'm still all there. " I love that freaking story. I'm sure Kerry got in a zinger after that, but the reporting paper of this story was the Sun, so it didn't make it to print. LOL!

4. Ok, so things are normal
They are still dissing Kerry. So if I look out the window, chances are there will be no pigs flying past.

BTW, are any of the Costellos still alive? They are the ones who started the Lowell Sun's tradition of hating Kerry.

6. I think they are all dead now.
Weirdos. And yes, the Lowell Sun is still very frosty toward our Jr. Senator. Although, occasionally, they do give him an 'atta boy' for something he did. (They liked his work on getting mercury out of the rivers.) And ever so often they do grumble, "well, at least he's not Ted Kenndy.' Kerry gave them an interview back in May, so he still has his sense of humor and all.

8. That is a great story
How cynical does one have to be to not appreciate someone after that. *sigh*

3. OMG, they actually printed it?
Maybe I should run out and see if I can still get a copy of today's paper. Most of the time it's just a poorly-written right-wing rag. So I don't subscribe to it. I just occasionally pick it up at the corner store. One of the Lowell Sun's few claims to fame is how much they hate Kerry. They are mostly responsible for killing his first attempt to run for congress in '72.

7. Yup, here it is
http://kerry.senate.gov/v3/cfm/record.cfm?id=246443

I loved the Brown speech. It was just wonderful to read and hear Kerry calling Bush out on his callous incomptence in the wake of Katrina.

But I like the CofC speech even more. It is not as vitriolic as the Brown speech and it really, really shows Kerry as someone who has a vision of where this country needs to go. We have to start paying attention to education and to how we encourage science and technology and such. This was a hard hitting speech, but it was also very positive in showing that there is a better way.

I really, really loved this one. :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:
