what's with the negative tone out in GD?
You'd think they could be happy about the house of cards the WH is fast turning into. But no--every journalist is a shill, every media outlet is either lazy or being run by the WH, nobody is to be trusted, and the Neocons are going to come and eat our babies! (ok I made that last one up). But the neocons do control everything and we are all doomed!! :eyes:

Well excuuuuse me--allow me to feel a bit optimistic (because I do)! We've waited quite a while for even this much to happen, and I believe we will be in for a few years more of unraveling WH dirty secrets, and very possibly a Dem majority or two on the Hill next year or in 2008.

Call me an optimist, but I believe!
Oh and pass the popcorn!

1. Maybe it's the time of year
The first anniversary of the second stolen election is right around the corner, and maybe people are reliving their pain and angst.

Actually, I have no idea. I just made that up.

2. It was an odd turn from yesterday.
There was a lot more optimism on Friday eve and Saturday. I agree with you, and I'm thrilled with the Libby indictments. It is only the tip of the iceberg. I believe there's a lot more to come.
And the only news I heard today was bush*'s new lower poll numbers, Kucinich's statements (good ones), and Sen Kerry using the F word - fraud (thanks MH1).
Did I miss something? Was it the Sun morning shows that got everyone down? Were they hoping Rove would be indicted over the weekend?
I don't get it.

3. I think the pb is that most pundits were trying to minimize the pb

on the morning shows , saying that it was not so much a big deal as only Libby was indicted and only for perjury.

Not a real surprise, but it is enough for people to feel sad, especially if they expected it to be the end of the Bush regime NOW or all the democratic leaders to raise and call for impeachment (Yes, some people had these ideas, as unlikely as this was. Somebody yesterday said that Kerry should ask Cheney to resign, for example).

5. We could, actually
For two years these people knew they were the ones responsible for this leak. Bush was going around the country saying we may never know who leaked. And now we find out it was his own VP and two key advisors?? Yes, Cheney and Rove should both resign. Bush should have to tell whether he knew they were the leakers when he was blathering on about wanting to know the truth. They spent nearly a million dollars of OUR money investigating THEMSELVES. It should be bigger. Harry Reid is on the right track with "Bush needs to come clean", we've got 'em dead to rights on this. The heat on the media should be so high that they don't dare to spin this away.

7. Interesting that Reid said that - Kerry said the same today in Boston

Democrats begin to coordinate their message better and better.

http://cbs4boston.com/local/local_story_303173155.html

Locally, Sen. Kerry believes the President needs to take care of the situation swiftly.

"He needs to come clean with the American people," he said. "People are sick and tired of all this stuff. They want America to start moving forward and the President has an obligation to fulfill those promises."

8. Excellent
That is really good to hear. But Bush participated in this song and dance for the last two years, keeping this from the American people, and somebody needs to say that loud and clear.

6. yup that could be part of it.

Over-inflated expectations. The anticipation of the wrapped present under the tree is sometimes more fun than the gift is when opened. And then there's that culture of instant gratification--and this one is going to be in the slow-cooker for a while. ;)

by the way I haven't seen the Sunday shows yet--was gone all day--so I'll be looking for those memes--thanks.

4. it just seems like they can't ever be satisfied
Or rather, they aren't happy unless they're complaining about something. Which just says more about who they are than about anything that's happening in the news. I guess we've got to pity them somewhat: whatever happens, it's never good enough. Which helps to put the JK-bashing into some perspective. He's just one of many subjects they like to rant about.

Alternatively, they might be RW infiltrators who then get the usual suspects to jump on their cynical bandwagons, hoping to disrupt and demoralize DU.

9. I think that some of them just had very strange expectations
They can't see that the one indictment of a high white house official (the first in 130 years) is almost more important because it is letting some of the press suddenly act like a real free press.

On DU what was weirdest to me is that many people were speaking out more and to some degree taking positions Kerry took months ago- Reid called for Rove to resign (moths after Kerry's petition), Feingold and Jay Rockefellow called for the part 2 of WMD (which Kerry send a letter with 10 other Democrats), it looks like much of the liberal wing may back something similar to Kerry's plan. DU is praising these actions.

The Kerry bashing seemed to be coming mostly from the usual suspects. Some are probably unhappy that their favorite may not have made their position known. (The Clarkies have been pretty quiet about Iraq since Wednesday, as have the Deaniacs. The Edwards people on one thread are hoping he comndemns the war.) I think we are more comfortable with our favorites position - even if we don't totally agree - because he has explained well where he is coming from. This may explain their Kerry bashing. (It will take time for them to get to a point where they can acknowledge that he's doing good things and switching to favor Kerry (after they have been on the ()team would be tough to do.

10. that team mentality is part of the problem
They don't see that we are all on the same team, not different factions that must "win". Because the only way we can win is to unite. The politicians understand this, but the everyday people don't. They think the loudest voice gets its way, and that everyone else will just fall in line.
