Talk about your six degrees of separation |
|
I just found out from my mom that Ben Bernanke (who * has chosen to succeed Alan Greenspan) grew up in the same small town in South Carolina that she did, lived next door to my great grandmother, and was the boyfriend of my mother's first cousin when they were kids.
I know he's a * appointee so maybe this ain't something to brag about, but he does seem to be less of a crony than most of Dim Son's choices for high level positions. At least from what I've read about him he appears to be intelligent. If he turns out to really suck, you can blame my mother's first cousin.

Brian Lamb. Lamb went to grade school with my older brother and sister, although he went to the public high school and my sibs went to the Catholic. Also, Lamb recently married his old girlfriend who also grew up in the same town.
But wait, there's more! :P
On the night of Clinton's first election, the mother of my old boyfriend called him up and he knew her from way back when. My sister heard the call.
Hey, I know it's not much... ;-)

Mine is that I am related to Wendy that used to be one of the backup singers with Prince, when he was Prince, before he became that other weird name.

I'm so d*mn literal, I thought the tread header meant we were supposed to talk about our six degress of separation, which is why I brought up the Brian Lamb story.
Island Blue, rest assured I'll blame your mother's first cousin for anything and everything Bernanke does. :P

That's all the thread was was a sixth degree of separation thing. I just found out about it this morning and thought it kind of amazing considering what a small town my mom comes from.
I went to college (and had classes with) Sen. Mark Hatfield's son and Wally McNamee's son (Wally was a news week photographer and his son Winn is now a photographer for AP I believe). Those are worth a few degrees I suppose.

My father attended the same school in Cambridge that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did. (Only it was called Cambridge Rindge then.)
Ahm, my brother lives in the same town as Peggy Kerry (And sees her around town from time to time) and my husband's cousin-in-law works at the school she will start teaching at soon.
I joked with Marvin Nicholson today. He is such a nice guy. (And wicked tall.) I got to tease him about buying chocolate laden pastries at a store that DD and I had stopped in. (To go. Hmmm, wonder who those were for?) He laughed. (It's simply not fair to eat chocolate cupcakes and gooey pastries and be thin. It's not fair. God is playing favorites here.)
Ahm, I knew of Tip O'Neill's kids back when he lived in Cambridge and my uncle lived diagonally across the street from him. (In Somerville, Camb. on one side of the street, Somerville on the other. Used to see The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives out asking his kids to mow the lawn. LOL!) Well, it was years before he became Da Speakah!
I met a man this summer who served with John F. Kennedy in the Navy and talked with JFK after the PT-109 incident. Interesting guy. Liked JFK, doesn't like Teddy.
