It's mostly my impression of the circular firing squad. They fire upon the leadership and each other, and end up taking themselves out too.

On the suggestion of J17, I'm biting my tongue at the moment. All I'm doing in one thread is kicking it to the top without getting anywhere. I want to fight misinformation with truth, but if they're just going to post more bile, then I'm not going to get anywhere anyway.

I need to learn to let go of some fights. Kinda like Kerry did.

sfexpat told me a while back after she'd gone on a major rampage that one of my posts (something about a souffle, I think) had an impact, and then she seemed to come out of rant mode and stay a lot calmer.

So that's one, at least.

6. I was web-hunting last night

for some specific Kerry pictures, and Google led me to the biggest pile of anti-Kerry garbage. I'm not really naive about the internet, but periodically it brings me up short to see the least admirable human traits magnified and distorted like in a funhouse mirror.

The web does bring out the crazies. I'm unquestionably a democrat, but reading the Chris Heinz thread made me want to disavow this whole site. I know all this has been said a million times, and by much better writers than I, but between the anonymity and the speed of posting people say the most hurtful and insulting things to each other.

There needs to be a better balance between freedom and respect for others. But I am a dreamer.
