What a crappy cruddy night |
|
First, I have a not so fun time at my job for seven hours. A MASSIVE thunderstorm o' death blows in, knocking out the power at my apartment (and rendering me unable to access DU!), so I go home. Now I am at home, on my slow ass dial up connection, and I read about all the awful, terrible shit that's been going down at DU all day.
I am losing more and more respect for the lunatic fringe, I can tell you that. How DARE they speak that way to Chris Heinz, and say things about his stepfather? And WHY aren't the mods cracking down harder on these filthy, vicious posts?
I am feeling more and more like I am in the extreme minority on DU, exiled in this Oasis with all you other sane wonderful people. I just watched part of a documentary about Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy was shown in a clip, telling his suppoters about King's assassination.
It just got me to thinking. These left freepers cry and whine, and beg for a "leader" and a "hero" of the likes of RFK, and lament the spineless cowardice of all current Dem office holders.
AND THEY ARE ALL TOO STUPID AND BLIND TO SEE THAT A BRAVE, HONORABLE LEADER IS STARING THEM RIGHT IN THE FUCKING FACE.
I could cry, seriously. This is all getting to be too much.
Fuck.

they are too stupid. They only believe what is in front of their face, on the surface. JK is an intellectual, too complicated for them. They just want a Dean-scream and a sound-bite.
I couldn't believe some of the crap they said to Chris Heinz. I know he is a bigger man than them and can just let it go on by, but still.
I think the far left wing can be just as bad as the far right wing sometimes. Just as fanatical, just as narrow minded. It's their way, with their limited perspective, or nothing. Will Pitt is right: they aren't going to change their minds.
I don't get too mad at them, because they are relatively powerless, so let them scream. I get mad at people like George Will, who has a column in Newsweek and thousands of people reading it. I got mad at him tonight--he was quoting the exit polls about how the only group JK carried were the 18-29 year olds. He was using information from the same exit polls that said that John Kerry won the election! The height of irony!! So I wrote him a sarcastic little email!
It is so sad--the guy with the answers gets passed over for the guy who creates the problems. America NEEDS the tall intellectual guy with the wonderful smile, dammit!!!

2. I guess just a combination of things has made me down tonight |
|
You guys really do keep me sane. I think I'd go nuts without this forum to come to and relax in. I'm feeling abnormally paranoid tonight, too. Sometimes I think I can't even trust the majority of "liberals" anymore, the ones who are supposed to be on our side. I feel like an endangered and hated minority.
God, I think I'm cracking...

I dug back through my emails, from what we KFF's lovingly call "the dark days". This was from 5 days before the Iowa caucus. Never ever forget what we accomplished. If you give what you're able to give, then you've already won.
Let go of your expectations. Have none. Let go of your dreams. Have none. Let go of your anger. Have none. Let go of your fears. Have none. Give yourself over to giving. LIve each moment as it comes. But keep one thought in your heart. Which is that we've already won. It's only Wednesday. There are five more days of unbridled insanity left, and it's our job to fight that insanity. This isn't fun time any more. This is game time, and we need to have our game faces on no matter where we are or what we're doing. We need discipline. We need commitment. We need selflessness. We need sacrifice. Every single one of you has earned my respect. That's why I'm asking you to step out of the moment and into the void with me for the next five days. Let's Ignore the polls and the rumors and the wounds yet to come, and show the world what a Kerry Freedom Fighter can do when the campaign is on the line. Let's finish strong, so no matter what happens, not a single one of us ever has to wonder what more we could have done.

What should I do? I can't even stand to look at the freepers (lefty or righty). I need an outlet for this despair.

That you really care about. And do what you can to change it. Be a grain of sand. Be a ripple in the pond. That's all any of us can really do.
Yesterday a friend of ours came over. He doesn't talk to me much because he knows I think his Christian baloney is, well, baloney. He's a real fundie and once told me not to worry, Catholics get to go to heaven too. (Wasn't that kind of him) But he and my husband were jabbering about something or other, and it suddenly occurred to me that the guy really doesn't have a strong opinion about anything. He just blabbers on and my husband could actually steer the conversation anyway he wanted. Then I thought about other people and one of the things that bugged me most during the election. People that I KNEW didn't have right wing views were suddenly spouting right wing garbage. For some people, maybe alot of people, it's more about their pride and thinking they have to have a particular view to fit in. If they discover they're with somebody more liberal, they'll change what they say to fit. Or they'll go the other way if somebody is around to lead them that way. So today I'm a bit more serene and am going to try not to take people so seriously. Maybe it takes a certain kind of personality to post online, people who have strong enough views that they actually want to bother to post them. I don't know. But I'm not going to let these people get me down anymore.

I'm not too despairing at the moment, but I'm kind of floundering for something to do.
This stuff goes in cycles, eh? I'm glad we're not all overwhelmed at once; it's great to have you guys to come to for moral support.
Hang in there, Wild one.

I looked at the date. I was exactly 2 months shy of my 4th birthday when that was taken.

I remember a few of them that would have made great Kerry lines, but I think of the "Harmony" one and that one makes me think of him.
