So there's a certain poster who doesn't seem to want Kerry's win exposed
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 08:20 PM by Der Blaue Engel
Let's call him "Beuller."

WHY IS HE NOT GONE ALREADY?

I guess he hasn't come right out and said anything virulently right-wing (although he has sent people to such a website).

He tires me.

Am I overreacting? (Anybody know what I'm talking about?)

on edit: howzat, Faye? :D

2. Oops, sorry!
I've been thinking of the group in terms of talking with other Kerrylovers, not necessarily talking about Kerry.

But, IMHO, Kerry wouldn't like Bueller. :P

4. I know how to convert it to a Kerry topic:
after a few webhunt for Kerry pictures I've come to the conclusion that our enthusiasm for the man may be entirely necessary.

I know people go a little overboard here sometimes, but they are young and just came through a serious trauma.

But what I'm really saying is there's so much Kerry-loathing crap out there it boggles the mind. I imagine the rightwing freeps are just as few in number as the lefty ones, but man are they loud. And mean. And personal.

All through the campaign we all heard over and over and OVER again how "NO ONE REALLY LIKES KERRY." Maybe one of our jobs in our little corner of the online world is to be the balance - let the world know that there are those who are devoted to him.

Just a thought. I mostly stay out of the GD because it's bad for my blood pressure, so I don't know what this person actually said. But I'm still angry about the way those jerks talked to Chris Heinz yesterday.

5. Well when the mainstream media repeats the meme about how dull he is
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 10:07 PM by WildEyedLiberal
I started to wonder if I was the only weirdo who actually thought he was attractive. Then I come here and meet like minded people, and it was like... well, an oasis.

Maybe it is over the top, I don't know. I didn't think it bothered anyone. Eh, whatever. If people don't like my zaniness, they don't have to read it - I don't recall signing a contract with DU stipulating that everyone had to enjoy everything I say.

6. do you think it really does any good?
We can go over to those other forums, and defend, defend defend--but does it do any good?
Ok I'll answer my own question. Maybe it doesn't change the freep's mind, but for the others who read both the post and our answers will not be swayed as much by those freeps. Think so?

Sigh. but it's Hard Work! But if we are to stand in for John Kerry, we need to fight smart like he does. Hit them with facts rather than just blast them with insults. Think of JK during the debates. Cool and deadly. That's what I try to do--in my small way!!

8. I'll answer your answer
Reading others' responses to disinfo has helped me not to be swayed by it. I have a bad habit of accepting demoralizing statements without properly evaluating them. But when I see other people respond with even a subtle :hi: it makes me think twice about what I was about to accept as a given. It also helps me recognize it when I begin to see the pattern repeat itself elsewhere.

But there are certain instances where ignoring speaks volumes.

17. I'm sort of with Will Pitt on this.
You can't changes the mind of someone whose mind is closed, but you can't always tell whose mind is a little bit open yet.

And then there's the whole silly human bandwagon thing. I'm a strongminded woman, but when I see something repeated umpteen times I start wonder if I'm the one who's wrong.

I've told myself a billion times (it's my mantra!) this past year that most people don't have the advantage of having known Kerry all these years. They don't know what a good man he is - they just hear all the spew and think where there's smoke there's fire, and anyway he's a pol, right? and everyone knows all they do is lie...

I don't have any answers, but I think Will had a point when he said to get away from the computer and go talk to people face to face.

I knew a pile of people who were tepidly planning to vote for Dean, but when I got finished talking their ears off they were all for Kerry. If everyone did that, the base would grow fast. We can't count on the media - we have to do it ourselves.

And, OFF the bandwagon.

12. Sometimes I think I should write more letters to the editor
or to some of the liberal radio people. Just to let them know that they can't blame everything on Kerry as if none of us really liked the guy. It's too convenient.

I told off someone in the other thread because they pointed to some freepers in WA state and said they must not be Dems, because they're protesting, unlike JOHN KERRY! Uh, I had to point out that they were comparing rank and file protest to leadership protest. That conveniently leaves them, as the rank and file, out of the equation. Go look in a mirror, I told them. I get so sick of the "we'd have protested if Kerry told us to" excuse. KERRY SHOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED TO TELL YOU TO. If so many people believed in the fraud, it should have happened naturally. But we are not the base, we are not the mainstream here. Most people don't believe in the fraud. It's hard enough for me to convince people of irregularities, let alone fraud.

gromph.

I didn't mean to tease. I just wouldn't want to be guilty of calling anyone a...tree...so I was of course only speaking metaphorically (euler) of no one in particular.

20. Just have patience with that poster. If you want to respond to his
silliness, do so rationally, turn his posts back on him, don't waste your time if he is bothering you. He will eventually tire and get angry and then "out" himself. It recently took one poster over 1000 posts to lose his cool. He walked the fine line and never attacked, but one day he lost it and found himself in a place like this!

22. A lot of "smart" posters that come from a forum far, far away
(in terms of ideology) have been sent to that gloomy place. They eventually lose their cool or "out" themselves because of the egos. Some stay and others are spirits (with multiple ISPs) never seem to rest or tire of their haunts.

Patience, patience...
