Let me break this down in pieces of a whole story. The Orchids |
|
It was a stormy day in Boston. We had Kerrycrats all over the country trying to get their lovely selves to Boston. And we had one lone and lovely orchid that was intended as a thank you to Mrs. Heinz winging it's way from sunny California to the frozen Northeast.
Owh, I need to back up a minute. I knew just around Thanksgiving that something wonderful was being planned for us in Boston. But we were under a vow of secrecy that came from THK. (Personally. We were honor bound to keep that one.) We knew that we were a 'birthday surprise' for Sen. Kerry and a means of showing him, in our small way, how many people from across the country still cared and worried about him. We had to keep this a secret until the actual party.
I wanted a way of saying thank you for this. A little birdie told me that Mrs. Heinz liked orchids, so we put our democratic heads together and agreed on a really nice one to give her in Boston. It was supposed to be delivered Friday, but the record-setting storm on the East Coast waylaid my orchid.
This morning I got a cell phone call from Vektor. My orchid had finally arrived at the hotel. Well, a day late and a dollar short, but there it is. I could have asked the grower to redirect this to a residence about a 1/2 mile away, but that might have taken a long time. Too long. So, we decided to take the orchid and walk over to Beacon Hill. (We could have cabbed it, but there were five of us who wanted to go over and we couldn't find a cab big enough for us.)
So we traipsed through the still snowy streets of Boston with our precious orchid and a box of chocolates that Firespirit had contributed (cuz someone has a well known sweet-tooth.) We popped across the Public Gardens, walked up a far-less icy street to the Kerry residence. We opened the box, made sure the orchid was still beautiful, cuz nothing less than sublime loveliness would do for such a wonderful lady and we rang the door bell and delivered the present. And we managed to wrap up the last loose end of the Boston Party.
Then we trudged on back to the hotel and talked and talked some more. (Which was along the order of, hey, we had a beer with Sen. Kerry last night, look of awe and disbelief, followed by high fives all around.)

I'm so glad it finally got there. Sigh.
I'm still in complete disbelief. I think I'll be floating on this buzz for weeks.

I know you were a little bummed out about that yesterday. Glad you got to deliver the orchid and chocolate in person :-)

4. Were you in direct contact with THK? |
|
Or who were you in contact with? (Now that I'm in DC, I'm always looking for contacts, you know?)

I miss Momma T. :loveya: She would have been like a mom compared to the evil stepford woman occupying the WH now. :(
Can't wait for pics.
