Stupid article of the day 10/13 |
|
Of course, it's from the Herald: http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=63061See, we ain't aristocratic anymore. Strictly beer and pretzels for the Superbowl this year. Honestly, who thinks these things up and why can't they get a real job.

I'm sure they're all weeping into their coffee cups this morning.
Why doesn't the Herald just give it up?

Got dumped.
As I remember it, this means an extended session in front of the TV watching crappy cable shows with only a half-gallon of Rocky Road and some Diet Dr. Peppers for company. Sigh!
On the other side, now freepers can't track you down using the social register. So there is an upside.

4. Well, that should tell people something |
|
That crap just isn't as important to our guys as it is to some people.
Naw, Kerry's too "new rich."
Love that the Bush's are on it, as is the publisher who releases Coutier, Limbaugh and the Smear Vets.
Yah, I wanna be on THAT list. Oh sure.
On another note, I'm going medieval on the next poster out there who calls Kerry "Live Shot." I never want to here that nickname coming out of our side again. That's what the other side calls him. I could have had an anyerism when I heard that a couple days ago.

5. Who called him that???? |
|
Who??? Where??? I'm bringing my mace to help you out.
Do they know where that slime comes from? Howie Carr, who is an obnoxious loudmouth who writes for the right-slanting Boston Herald, has a talk radio ,and is well know in the Boston area for his personal vendetta against John Kerry.

6. What was his problem with JK? |
|
I don't usually pick up the Herald (my dog is trained to go outside.) What did Kerry ever do to him or is it just the usual RW Howie idiocy?

You can see me having apoplexy. I just couldn't believe it. Not here. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=1480525I guess that crap started with the Republicans and spread to Carr, someone says in the thread. At least not everyone is a nutjob out there.

why you got upset. Dems quoting Howie Carr? It's like quoting Limbaugh against Kerry.
OTOH, there were a fair number of supporters in that thread. Awful about that poor woman who lost her son. I'd probably be bitter too.
This is OT, but I wrote an email to Chris Heinz today. That thread from the other day was still bothering me, and writing to him was the only way I could come up with to purge it from my mind.

7. Another great Boston story |
|
At least he didn't go to Harvard, they didn't have to hire someone to teach them how to pahty at Yale: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=572&ncid=572&e=3&u=/nm/20050113/lf_nm/life_harvard_dcOh my gawd, how pathetic do you have to be to have to hire someone to tell you to lighten up. BTW, you're not anywhere near Hahvid, are you?

My older son's best friend went to Hahvid, and I work for a Hahvid prof, and my office is literally SWIMMING with Hahvid & MIT grad students. Oh yeah. I'm plenty near.
On the other hand, I loathe the place. We're a proud BC family.

Ahm, there are a certain number of people in the world who are just too damn smart to be allowed out without an escort. And a stun gun. (On the other hand, oddly enough, MIT puts on great musicals. They did a musical based on 'Star Wars' a couple of years ago that was --- fab-u-lous!
I worked at BC, long ago. Great School! My nephew is a double-eagle. Might be working on triple status.
Edit: BC High School, BC Undergrad and BC Law = Triple-eagle
My sympathies on Hahvid. My uncle used to live on the Cambridge/Slummerville line and we used to go to Hahvid all the time to bother the elites. It was like a drinking game, the first one who says some word you never heard of in a conversation, drink.
Sorry everybody else, just a little town and gown discussion here. We can't help it. Making fun of Hahvid is irresistible to natives.

My daughter played in the MIT pit orchestra for "Patience" when she was in HS. She plays in the MIT Summer Philharmonic too - great local orchestra that gets together to play one concert every year - for free.
BC has been very very good to us.

|
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 01:33 PM by TayTay
Well, that was a stupid subject line. But MIT is just so quirky. They have a wonderful group of undergrads (and the aforementioned scary people, but you can usually tell who they are an practice your avoidance skills.)
That's nice about your daughter. Maybe the people ar Hahvid should call up the MITers and ask for some suggestions on how to pahty. OMG, can you imagine Hahvid asking anyone for anything? Ever?

14. I don't know if they still do, |
|
but when I was in HS MIT offered a Saturday school - courses on oddball subjects taught to HS students. It was a lot of fun - read my first Scott Fitzgerald there - not something normally associated with MIT.

I used to work in Kendall Square for techies, and the ones who had social skills were very nice. And they expected you to be smart. That was great.
Otherwise, The People's Republic of Cambridge, just ain't what is used to be. Now, with the average house price of $1 mil, a lot of the quirkies had to leave. Pity. Not as colorful as it used to be.

When I was a child my parents loved to go the Harvard Square on Saturdays, so I grew up wandering around there in the early 60's. It was a very very different place then. Very European. Design Research, scandinavian modern, Marimekko, The Window Shop. Vestiges remain, but it is at least somewhat mall-ish where it used to be all funky and stuff.

And so did the Wursthaus. At least the tobacco shop is still there. (with all the odd things they sell.) Oh well. That's progress for ya.
Even the bookstores are closing. Didn't Wordsworth go out of business just recently? I used to love that store. Sigh!

but I LOVE the tobacco shop! Talk about funky...
Yeah, Wordsworth just went out of business, and the little used bookstores have been closing one by one. I can't believe they replaced the Wursthaus with an Abercrombie store. Gack.
Still the best place anywhere to look for used cd's though.

Where are yuppies supposed to meet and find mates now? (Excuse me, are you into pre-columbian pottery? I happen to have a small collection back at my other house. Want to get some coffee. So, tell me, what do you think the Cambridge City Council should outlaw next?")
Ah, Cambridge..... Unique mating habits for the Catabridgeans.
